What follows is a breath-taking conversation in which John shows great sensibility to coax Violet away from the ledge and which reveals her surprising reasons for such drastic measures. While the reader quickly takes Violet’s side, Eckhart makes sure to draw attention to the complexity of the matter and allows several viewpoints. Not every reader might be pleased with the ending but surely everyone will want to know what the future holds for Violet.
