Summary

When tension stews again in his hometown, it becomes clear to Pierre de Lestang, a young and headstrong Huguenot that he must keep his promise. Determined, he swears to protect his family and to take them to safety: to find freedom.
As he embarks on his journey, nothing stands in Pierre’s way – not until he realises that his plight comes with a heavy cost, jeopardising the very ones he holds most dear. Soon, he plunges into a past brimming with distressing discoveries. He learns that his friends and relatives are not who they seem to be.
Still, the freedom-seeker clings onto faith and hope, but drawn into a web of unbearable truths, he finds himself locked in his shell, not knowing whom to trust anymore, not even his own heart, for he fears he is about to lose it to a girl he must not love.

Linda de Létang - Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Linda is from a multi-cultural background; Dutch and French on her mother’s side, Chinese and Javanese on her father’s. Linda was two when her parents moved to Singapore where she was raised with her four siblings. At school, Linda remembers day-dreaming during lessons, looking out the windows, imagining herself in a fairytale world of enchantments, bravehearts and talking animals.
Linda now lives with her husband, splitting her time between her town-house in the suburban area of Paris and at the countryside in the middle of France. When she is not reading or writing, you will find her busy in her vegetable plot, or in the kitchen. Linda also loves travelling and hiking. She hopes to resume the Camino de Santiago walk – both physically and mentally challenging, she finds – all the way across Spain. Linda has three grown-up children and two grandchildren.

There is something about the number 3.
The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.
Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.
Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

    Squirrels should never travel alone.

Three months ago, Deneb Hartman lost his cousin. They were in a clearing, in their squirrel forms, when wolves attacked them. His cousin never made it back, and Deneb's world shattered. He never did well on his own, and he's been traveling aimlessly ever since.

Nicodemus Zervas owns a thrift shop in Doson. He's a vampire surrounded by humans unaware of the supernatural world, and it's lonely. For a year, he had a squirrel shifter working for him, but now he's moved on and left Nicodemus behind. But then one day, there is a naked man jumping out of his recycling dumpster. When Nicodemus runs after him, all he can find is a squirrel.

Deneb found a nice little forest behind a thrift store to hang out in. Had he known people stayed in the building overnight, he wouldn't have shifted where he could be seen. Nicodemus is almost sure the naked man and the squirrel are the same, but how to get him to show himself to Nicodemus? Bribe him with macadamia nuts?
