Sinopsis

Addiction Recovery offers a comprehensive guide to understanding and overcoming addiction, emphasizing that recovery is a personalized journey rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. It explores the psychological underpinnings of addiction, highlights advancements in treatment methodologies, and underscores the importance of aftercare and relapse prevention. The book acknowledges addiction as a chronic, relapsing condition, asserting that successful long-term management requires integrating various therapies and lifestyle adjustments.

Readers will gain insights into the neurobiological mechanisms driving addictive behaviors and the societal factors contributing to substance use disorders, building a solid foundation for understanding this complex health issue. This book distinguishes itself by adopting a holistic approach, considering the individual's overall well-being through self-compassion and mindfulness. It examines various treatment options, from cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to motivational interviewing (MI) and pharmacological interventions.

Progressing from the science of addiction to treatment methods and relapse prevention strategies, the book equips readers with practical exercises and real-life examples to apply the concepts.

Think you can't garden because your soil is poor, your water is scarce, and your space is limited? Think again. Drawn from the popular columns of Grocott's Mail, this handbook is packed with proven, hard-won wisdom from South Africa's Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
This collection of bite-sized columns and stories is a practical guide to creating life and community from barren ground. Learn how to compost, drought-proof your beds, build parks from dumps, and harness ferments for richer soil, the secrets of xerophytes, the art of fermentation for plant health, and how to build a thriving garden from tyres, pallets, and recycled "graywater."
More than just a gardening manual, it's a testament to the power of a seed and a shovel to change not only a landscape but a community. This collection chronicles the ingenious, low-cost, and utterly organic methods locals use to coax life from the earth.
Filled with heartfelt stories like Cecil's transformation of a Currie Street dumping ground and practical advice for every season, this book is an essential companion for any gardener fighting their own odds. From the "Garden of the Week" at the Hayton Complex to the determined schoolchildren of the Feeding The Self project, these stories prove that a garden is more than food—it's a classroom, a community centre, and a beacon of hope. Packed with actionable advice on everything from graywater systems and winter warming to natural pest control, The Resilient Garden is a powerful call to pick up a trowel and start growing, no matter your circumstances.
Whether you're nurturing seedlings on a windowsill or mobilizing a community to turn a dump into a park, this book shows you how to grow against the odds. Your toughest growing conditions are about to become your greatest advantage.

Unmasking Fear - How Fears Are...

Imagine the possibilities if instead of avoiding the things you feared, you approached them with courage and curiosity.

When we are in the grip of fear, our world can get very small and for many of us, the number of choices shrink to just four basic reactions: fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. That’s not a lot of options. On a collective level, elements of our society like governments, religions, and businesses sometimes instill fear to divide and control—to keep us feeling dependent on them instead of ourselves. On an individual level, fear can be the reason we’re living a life that’s not reflective of our truth or potential. It’s what keeps us feeling stuck and holds us back. What most of us don’t realize is that fear has much to teach us.

“Fear Technician” Guryan Tighe reframes the way we approach fear from the goal of conquering it to a goal of learning from it by providing readers three gateways to look at fear in a way that frees us: curiosity, gratitude, and purpose. She shows us how to interrupt our initial reaction, pause, check in with ourselves, and rewrite the patterns we use to respond to that which we fear. With this shift in thinking and how to engage it, readers will find new pathways forward as they shift from unintentional reactions to intentional responses.

When we change our relationship to fear, we gain valuable insights that inform our growth and development, connecting us more deeply to our truth. This different approach to fear doesn’t just transform our relationship with ourselves but can also unite us with others through empathy and shared purpose. What has the power to separate us from ourselves and each other—fear—also has the power to unite us. Unmasking Fear shows us that fear is courage unrealized and understanding our fears frees us to pursue the life we want.

“For anyone in the grip of fear, or longing for deeper connection to themselves and others, this book will propel you towards greater clarity, confidence and peace.”—Randy Taran, author of Emotional Advantage and founder/CEO of Project Happiness.org
