Sinopsis

As an unexploded World War 2 bomb is discovered, a strange a figure appears on the evening train from London to Nottingham and the carriage is transformed to the 1940s.
Though easily dismissed as the foolish stories of overworked imaginations, he keeps appearing and the city is gripped by fear. Is he a ghost? A predator?
Local journalist, Arlene Bates demands action from the police and, with an uncomfortable reputation for "peculiar" cases, a reluctant DCI Jenner is assigned to investigate.
Then the direst predictions are confirmed when Karen Renshaw is viciously attacked on the train, remaining in a coma while the strange figure cannot be found. As Jenner probes Karen's background, old mysteries are opened up and the web of suspicion widens. Is this a lone attack or the first of many?
Events in the past and present come together. Time is running out as a fearful deadline approaches.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. "The Welcome Centre" is a chilling modern retelling of Sweeney Todd set in contemporary London, where charity becomes a mask for systematic murder. The story follows Marcus Lovett, a disgraced NHS surgeon who transforms a Victorian building in Bermondsey into what appears to be a beacon of hope for homeless youth aged 16-25.
Beginning in early 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Welcome Centre presents itself as a privately funded facility offering genuine support to London's most vulnerable young people. Marcus, stripped of his medical license after a fatal surgical error caused by substance abuse, partners with Eleanor Blackwood, a former crematorium manager, and Dr. Sarah Chen, an addicted surgeon, to create an elaborate facade hiding a sophisticated organ trafficking operation.
The pandemic provides perfect cover for their crimes. With social services overwhelmed and oversight reduced, the Centre systematically identifies residents with valuable organs, murders them in a basement surgical suite, and sells their organs to international buyers for millions of pounds. Bodies are disposed of through corrupt crematorium contacts, leaving no trace of the victims.
Seventeen-year-old Lily Morrison becomes suspicious when residents repeatedly disappear without explanation. Her investigation uncovers financial records proving the organ sales, but her discovery puts her in mortal danger. Meanwhile, the arrival of Sarah Morrison, whose aunt Kate is a Metropolitan Police detective, creates an unexpected complication for the operation.
As Lily faces imminent death in Dr. Chen's surgical suite, Sarah's desperate phone call to her aunt triggers an armed police response. The dramatic rescue exposes one of Britain's most shocking criminal enterprises, revealing that 73 young people had been murdered over 14 months.
The story follows the investigation, trial, and aftermath, exploring themes of exploitation, societal failure to protect the vulnerable.

Sometimes a novel idea can turn out to be a bad one.

Sally Simmons was rather misunderstood in the small town of Whitby, North Carolina. An awkward woman with a sly countenance, she became a regular at the library, spending a good deal of time scribbling in a notebook and staring vacantly off into space.

It turned out, to everyone's surprise, that Sally had been industriously penning a novel. To their greater surprise, it became something of a sensation, even landing itself on the bestseller lists.

Since much of the novel had been written within the hallowed walls of the Whitby Library, reference librarian Ann and other staff members decide to hold an event to celebrate Sally’s accomplishment and learn more about her book.

Sadly, it soon becomes evident that Sally's book was inspired by actual residents of Whitby—and that she concealed their identities poorly.

When Sally meets an unfortunate demise, it's up to Ann to figure out the killer so the police can throw the book at him.
