Summary

Take Charge of Your Emotions

Effective emotion management can lead to more successful relationships, increase the positive feelings kids have about themselves and even help their daily lives run more smoothly. This book is designed to be used by adults who are helping children or teens identify strategies to help them increase their ability to regulate their own emotions.

Working with children and adolescents struggling to manage their emotions is a special privilege that brings with it reward, constant recalibration, and the reality that for all of us, the road to emotion regulation requires tenacity and the proper tools. The emotion regulation strategies and workbook activities described throughout this resource have roots in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and positive psychology. CBT, DBT and positive psychology are models that show much promise in aiding struggling students.

You will find activities throughout the book to complete with your child. These activities could also be completed independently by children up to the task. Special note for caregivers and therapists: Please take a moment to congratulate your children. If they recognize they need help managing their emotions, they have taken the biggest step in this process: awareness.
Available since: 08/05/2025.
Print length: 160 pages.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, from the mouth to the anus. It is characterized by inflammation, which can cause a range of symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, and weight loss. The condition is named after Dr. Burrill Crohn, who, along with his colleagues, first described it in 1932. Crohn's disease affects people of all ages, but it is most commonly diagnosed in individuals between the ages of 15 and 35.
The cause of Crohn's disease is not entirely understood, but it is thought to result from a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune system factors. Genetic predisposition plays a significant role, as individuals with a family history of Crohn's disease are more likely to develop it. Environmental triggers such as diet, infections, and stress may also contribute to the onset or worsening of the disease. Additionally, the immune system's abnormal response to the presence of normal gut bacteria is believed to be a key factor in the disease's development.
The prevalence of Crohn's disease varies across different populations, with higher rates observed in developed countries, particularly in North America and Europe. The incidence of Crohn's disease has been increasing over the past few decades, although the reasons for this rise remain unclear. It is also more common among individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, suggesting a potential genetic component.

    Dignity for Deeply Forgetful...

For caregivers of deeply forgetful people: a book that combines new ethics guidelines with an innovative program on how to communicate and connect with people with Alzheimer's.

How do we approach a "deeply forgetful" loved one so as to notice and affirm their continuing selfidentity? For three decades, Stephen G. Post has worked around the world encouraging caregivers to become more aware of—and find renewed hope in—surprising expressions of selfhood despite the challenges of cognitive decline.

In this book, Post offers new perspectives on the worth and dignity of people with Alzheimer's and related disorders despite the negative influence of "hypercognitive" values that place an ethically unacceptable emphasis on human dignity as based on linear rationality and strength of memory. This bias, Post argues, is responsible for the abusive exclusion of this population from our shared humanity.

With vignettes and narratives, he argues for a deeper dignity grounded in consciousness, emotional presence, creativity, interdependence, music, and a self that is not "gone" but "differently abled."

Post covers key practical topics such as:
    • understanding the experience of dementia
    • noticing subtle expressions of continuing selfhood, including "paradoxical lucidity"
    • perspectives on ethical quandaries from diagnosis to terminal care and everything in between, as gleaned from the voices of caregivers
    • how to communicate optimally and use language effectively
    • the value of art, poetry, symbols, personalized music, and nature in revealing self-identity
    • the value of trained "dementia companion" dogs

At a time when medical advances to cure these conditions are still out of reach and the most recent drugs have shown limited effectiveness, Post argues that focusing discussion and resources on the relational dignity of these individuals and the respite needs of their caregivers is vital. Grounding ethics
on the equal worth of all conscious human beings, he provides a cautionary perspective on preemptive assisted suicide based on cases that he has witnessed. He affirms vulnerability and interdependence as the core of the human condition and celebrates caregivers as advocates seeking social and economic
justice in an American system where they and their loved ones receive only leftover scraps. Racially inclusive and grounded in diversity, Dignity for Deeply Forgetful People also includes a workshop appendix focused on communication and connection, "A Caregiver Resilience Program," by Rev. Dr. Jade C. Angelica.
