Summary

From two New York Times–bestselling authors, a group of young people go to the International Space Station on a mission to save earth from alien invasion.   It was supposed to be just an educational field trip to the Challenger Learning Center, but JJ Wren and her friends find themselves transported into the future, to a time when the human race is under siege from deadly alien invaders. The evil Kylarn have shifted the orbits of three asteroids, sending them tumbling toward Earth—and a direct impact will have devastating consequences. With instructions and skills they learn from the mysterious Commander Zota, JJ and her fellow Star Challengers embark on a mission to the asteroids before it's too late, hoping to divert the giant rocks before they strike Earth. But the alien invaders aren't the only enemy—the Star Challengers have to worry about human traitors, too!   Praise for The Star Challengers series:   “The Star Challengers with their Commander Zota ‘boldly go into the future’ to bring great science fiction adventures to readers. . . . What a wonderful way to expand young imaginations.” —Leonard Nimoy   “Space exploration is an adventure that benefits all mankind. The Star Challenger books inspire young readers with that sense of adventure, introducing them to a universe of exciting possibilities.” —Buzz Aldrin   “The Star Challenger adventure stories could help to inspire a whole new generation of young women to value science and seek careers in high-tech, engineering and space exploration.” —Sally Ride, astronaut

This leads to some tensions with her friends. Why can't people be happy for her? It's not as if success is going to her head, or anything. Or actually that it's anything like success at all...

A picture book reminding us that everyone is human and makes mistakes . . . even grown-ups: “Hilarious.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review)   Whether it’s forgetting to do chores, running late, or burping, no adult would ever behave so poorly—at least, that’s what you might think. By the end of this outrageous, laugh-out-loud picture book, you’ll know better . . .   From the duo behind Junior Library Guild selection I Didn’t Do My Homework Because and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School, this relatable and rollicking tale will have kids (and the adults who read with them) in stitches—and remind them that it’s okay not to be perfect all the time . . . and that manners exist for a reason.   “Illustrated with irony-laden wit . . . Delightfully droll text.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “A fun, simple, and goofy read for both adults and kids.” —School Library Journal   “Comically elegant, jewel-toned vignettes by Chaud, which detail an entire page of adult klutzes, a cheating chess player, and an amusing four-panel sequence of a father staring at his phone from breakfast to bedtime, hit the mark every time.” —Publishers Weekly

This book includes my lecture notes for electrical machines course. The book is divided to different learning partsPart 1- Apply basic physical concepts to explain the operation and solve problems related to electrical machines.Part 2- Explain the principles underlying the performance of three-phase electrical machines.Part 3- Analyse, operate and test three-phase induction machines.Part 4- Investigate the performance, design, operation, and testing of the three-phase synchronous machine.Part1: Apply basic physical concepts to explain the operation and solve problems related to electrical machines.Describe the construction of simple magnetic circuits, both with and without an air gap. Explain the basic laws which govern the electrical machine operation, such as Faraday's Law, Ampere-Biot-Savart's Law, and Lenz's Law. Apply Faraday's Law of electromagnetic induction, Ampere-Biot-Savart's Law, and Lenz's Law to solve for induced voltage and currents in relation to simple magnetic circuits with movable parts. Illustrate the principle of the electromechanical energy conversion in magnetic circuits with movable parts.Part 2: Explain the principles underlying the performance of three-phase electrical machines. Compare and contrast concentric and distributed windings in three-phase electrical machines. Identify the advantages of distributed windings applied to three-phase machines. Explain how the pulsating and rotating magnetic fields are produced in distributed windings. Calculate the synchronous speed of a machine based on its number of poles and frequency of the supply. Describe the process of torque production in multi-phase machines.Part 3: Analyse, operate and test three-phase induction machines. Calculate the slip of an induction machine given the operating and synchronous speeds. Calculate and compare between different torques of a three-phase induction machine, such as the locked rotor or starting torque, pull-up torque, breakdown torque, full-load torque or braking torque. Develop and manipulate the equivalent circuit model for the three-phase induction machine. Analyse, and test experimentally, the torque-speed and current-speed characteristics of induction machines. and discuss the effects of varying such motor parameters as rotor resistance, supply voltage and supply frequency on motor torque-speed characteristics. Perform no-load and blocked rotor tests in order to determine the equivalent circuit parameters of an induction machine. Explore various techniques to start an induction motor. Identify the applications of the three-phase induction machines in industry and utility. Classify the insulations implemented in electrical machines windings and identify the factors affecting them. Part4. Investigate the performance, design, operation, and testing of the three-phase synchronous machine. Describe the construction of three-phase synchronous machines, particularly the rotor, stator windings and the rotor saliency. Develop and manipulate an equivalent circuit model for the three-phase synchronous machine.
