Sinopsis

A laugh-out-loud comedy in the vein of Spike Milligan and Tom Sharpe. Irreverent and a little bit surreal this book is a damn good laugh.
It’s 1932 and four men have been brutally murdered in the village pub of St Mary Mediocre just outside the town of Slagbottom. The local police are baffled and the local busybody, Miss Marble, is unavailable, she’s been knocked off her bike by a passing Belgian tourist. So the local force calls for the help of the most famous police detective of the age, Detective Inspector Aloysius Corner of Scotland Yard. Corner of the Yard, as he is known far and wide, has an unusual method of solving crime … he leaves it all up to his assistant Detective Sergeant Impetigo Dogsbreath. But Sergeant Dogsbreath has his own problems; he was born in Slagbottom and left as soon as he was able. Now he bitterly resents being forced back to the town to confront his own personal history.

It’s a quiet English village—except for one crazed murderer—in this delightful romp by the author of the Constable Mavis Upton series. Librarian Prunella Pearce has left heartbreak behind to start a new life in the village of Winterbottom, where there’s little social life to be had aside from the meetings of The Winterbottom Women’s Institute at the parish hall. But a bit of excitement ensues when the group is about to elect a new president—and the nominees for the position begin dropping like flies. One is found facedown in a lemon drizzle cake, stabbed with a crochet needle. Another nearly dies spectacularly in the revolving doors of a Harrogate hotel. When Pru and her friend Bree agree to do some undercover snooping to help the police, little do they know that one of the Winterbottom women is hiding a scandalous secret . . .

    Mildly magical. Fiercely funny!
Jester. Juggler. Joker. Jerk. Malfred Murd might be talented, but he’s undeniably abrasive— and he’s pushed the limits of humor right into a ditch.
Sacked from his cushy gig on the Royal island, Fred is left playing bootleg shows in dirtwater towns where crowds are scarce and meals are sparse. His only fan is an infuriatingly optimistic magpie who thinks he’s helping when he steals a bag full of shinies.
But the bag belongs to the ruler of a Tekologically advanced country that, just like Fred, is deep in Royal disfavor. And as our former funnyman blunders into that noble lady’s desperate plan to save her people, all three Hells break hilariously loose!
Enjoy laughter, danger and unforgettable characters galore in this “cleverly plotted, twisty novel with a gratifying conclusion” (the BookLife Prize).

A hilarious testament to the power of humor and family, and to the special nature of father-son relationships, from beloved TV hosts, authors, and real-life father and son Willie and Bill Geist. Told in a unique back-and-forth banter style, the hilarious father-son team riffs on fatherhood, religion, music, sports, summer camp disasters, driving lessons gone horribly wrong, being on TV, and their wonderfully odd family life. Think Big Russ and Me meets S*** My Dad Says, with humorous observations about professional wrestling as a worldview, raising a kid with television cameras in the kitchen, and anything and everything else that comes to their witty minds. The Geists decided to write this book so their children and grandchildren would have a record of their unusual father-son relationship. Good Talk, Dad is remarkably funny, as well as poignant and sincere, especially in light of Bill's announcement that he's been diagnosed with Parkinson's. With its lighthearted look at the crazy things fathers and sons go through and the unique bond those experiences forge, the book is sure to be a must-have gift for Father's Day.
