Summary

In this practical and uplifting spiritual guide for parents, Tommy and Katie McGrady—hosts of Family Mass Prep on the Hallow app—share short, inspiring, down-to-earth stories from their own family life to encourage you again and again as you walk with your child toward First Communion and into a lifelong, ever-deepening friendship with Jesus.Drawing from their personal experience of growing in faith alongside their daughter Rose, the McGradys offer wisdom on helping children (and parents!) understand the beauty of the Eucharist and the joy of meeting Christ in Holy Communion. Designed to complement the sacramental preparation program at your parish, this small but powerful book can become a spiritual companion and keepsake for years to come.First Communion and Beyond is organized into five chapters, each one built around five practical tools or family habits for nurturing spiritual growth for you and for your child. Each habit leads you to a better understanding of what the Catholic Church teaches about the Eucharist:1. Joining Our Stories to the Church’s Story: Discover how to weave Eucharistic awareness into the rhythm of daily life.2. Learning from Scripture: Explore parent-friendly reflections on the gospels and key moments from the Mass that reveal how deeply Jesus desires to be with us in the Eucharist.3. Thinking and Growing as Parents: Pause to reflect, pray, and deepen your own spiritual life as you guide your child’s.4. Growing Together as Parents and Children: Use simple but meaningful conversations to help your family connect more deeply with each chapter’s theme.5. Praying as a Family: End your time together with a heartfelt prayer from the McGradys—or one of your own. With warmth, humor, and a deep love for the faith, the McGradys remind us that First Communion is about far more than a single day—it’s about nurturing a lifelong relationship with Jesus. As they explain, it’s about “helping our children take Jesus from the abstractions of what we believe about him and instead see him fully present in the everyday realities of their young lives. Preparing for First Communion ought to teach our children—and remind us—how to know and love Jesus in their hearts, in the scriptures, in the Eucharist, and in all the other people life brings their way.”

A complex and fascinating character, Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria, is best remembered as the Father of Orthodoxy, upholding the doctrine of the Trinity against the Arian heresy. In the newest addition to the Christian Biographies for Young Readers series, author Simonetta Carr introduces children to the life and times of this important church father who tirelessly defended the Nicene Creed, which many of us today recite as a confession of our faith. Born during the Great Persecution, forced five times to leave his church and city, and constantly threatened by those who tried to ruin his reputation, Athanasius provides an example of godly faithfulness. This winsome, simply written narrative will bring the Nicene Creed to life for children of all ages, prompting relevant discussions on the divinity of Christ and the importance of creeds and confessions. FIRST PRIZE winner of the 2014 Athanatos Children's Book Awards.

"This worthy meditation on an essential state of being uplifts without sugarcoating."--Publishers Weekly

What is gratitude? Where does it come from? Why do we need it? How does it change us?

In Gratitude, award-winning author Cornelius Plantinga explores these questions and more. Celebrating the role of gratitude in our lives, Plantinga makes the case that it is the very key to understanding our relationships with one another, the world around us, and God.

Going deeper than mindfulness and positive psychology, Plantinga explores gratitude in a theologically informed and pastorally sensitive way. He shows that being grateful to God is not only our righteous duty but also the single best predictor of our well-being. Gratitude makes us more faithful, joyful, generous, healthy, and content.

While it's easy to focus on the suffering, fear, and worries that surround us, Plantinga places all of that in the larger context of provision, abundance, and delight, empowering readers to experience the deep joy of giving thanks.

From the beginning, God had a plan for man. A perfect plan, one that was orchestrated in his perfect design. He made man in his image and after his likeness, for his purpose and glory, with superiority, glory, honor, and a little lower than the angels. There was a divine and superior connection between man and God. The plan, was for man to have dominion and authority over all that he created. The lord requires man to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with him.
But man grew to have plans of his own, due to the disobedience and the fall of Adam and Eve, sin entered the world and broke the divine connection. This fall opened the door to sin, sickness, disease, and the gate to hell. However, God still found a way to rescue fallen man. He sent Jesus his only begotten son to die on the cross for the sins of mankind. His love, grace, and mercy reached down and touch the hearts of man.
Now man is no longer living under sin, but grace covers the multitude of sins. The lamb was sacrificed and the price was paid for sin, so now man can enjoy the divine connection to God once more. But this is a matter of choice, and not compulsory. The free gift of salvation is available for all to partake, but whosoever will may come. He will not cast out or turn away anyone.
A major purpose of God's divine plan for man is to provide endless blessings, supernatural abilities, and provisions. By accepting Jesus, the sacrificial lamb, man will experience fellowship, and communion with the divine trinity, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There is nothing greater than this. This book takes a peep into the holy and unique, connection between God and man.
