Sinopse

This carefully crafted ebook: "The Birds' Christmas Carol (With Original Illustrations)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents.
The story is about Carol Bird, a Christmas-born child, who as a young girl is unusually loving and generous, having a positive effect on everyone with whom she comes into contact. She is the youngest member of her family and has devoted older brothers. At about the age of 5, Carol contracts an unspecified illness (possibly tuberculosis), and, by the time she is 10, she is bedridden. The novel primarily involves Carol making plans for a Christmas celebration for the nine Ruggles children, a poor, working-class family living near the Birds. The book is a wistful moral tale about a saintly child, but is enlivened by many humorous scenes, particularly those concerning the home life of the Ruggles family.
Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923) was an American educator and author of children's stories. She started the first free kindergarten in San Francisco in 1878. Kate Wiggin devoted her adult life to the welfare of children in an era when children were commonly thought of as cheap labour.

“An illustrated songbook is always welcome for storytimes, especially one with easy collages to copy for potential flannel-board use.” —School Library Journal “Kids will love Kadair’s bold, collage-style illustrations, and a handy glossary will help them learn about the best of Louisiana fare.” —NOLA Baby magazine Award-winning singer and songwriter Johnette Downing teams up with illustrator Deborah Ousley Kadair for another perfect storybook, which celebrates life in Louisiana and introduces young readers to the spice of Southern culture and food. To the tune of the traditional song “Aiken Drum,” Downing puts together quintessential Cajun ingredients to make the ultimate Creole man. With legs made of French bread and hair made of rice, Chef Creole comprises all of the South’s most-favorite foods and teaches children about the many flavors of Louisiana. Chef Creole includes a glossary of Louisiana fare, including boudin, cayenne pepper, and beignets. Kadair’s collage-style illustrations make it easy for children to interact with the book and point out the foods that help build Chef Creole himself.

Deet's world turns upside down when his father is arrested for drug use. It doesn't seem possible that kind, caring Dad could be a criminal! After all, he only took the pills to stay awake so he could work two jobs. Now what will happen? How will Deet be able to face his classmates? Where will they get money? And most importantly, will Dad be okay in prison? Hurt, angry, and ashamed, Deet doesn't want to visit his father in jail. But when Mom goes back to work, Deet starts visiting Dad after school. It's frightening at first, but as he adjusts to the routine, Deet begins to see the prisoners as people with stories of their own, just like his dad. Deet soon realizes that prison isn't the terrifying place of movies and nightmares. In fact, Dad's imprisonment leads Deet to make a few surprising discoveries -- about his father, his friends, and himself. With moving realism, Kirkpatrick Hill brings to light the tumultuous experience of having a parent in jail in this honest and stirring story of a young man forced to grow up quickly.
