Every 90 seconds a woman is sexually assaulted. In that same minute and a half, another is a victim of domestic violence at the hands of a current or former intimate partner. Every sixteen hours, one of those intimate partners shoots and kills a woman. Nearly two in ten women are stalked, while one in sixteen is raped during her first sexual experience. Despite these jaw-dropping statistics, collectively we are well practiced at seeing such acts as someone else’s problem. And yet, violence against women is tangled up with the most frequently discussed and debated issues of our time: healthcare and education access, immigration, gun policies, economic security, and criminal justice reform—issues that impact us all, nearly every day. 'I never knew—I never imagined what mountains were before.' History of a Six Weeks' Tour (1817) is a volume of travel-writing by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley, two of the best-known authors of the English Romantic period. Comprising prose narrative, correspondence, and poetry, it is a highly engaging account of their 'adventures and feelings' during two journeys from England to Switzerland. The first part of History describes the titular 'tour' made by the not-yet-married Mary and Percy in July–September 1814, when mainland Europe was once again accessible to British travellers at the end of the Napoleonic wars. The long descriptive letters which make up the second part of History recall the so-called 'Frankenstein summer' of 1816, some of which the Shelleys spent with Byron on the shores of Lake Geneva. This part of History also provides significant biographical and historical context for Mary's novels Frankenstein (1818) and The Last Man (1826), key sections of which are set in the Alps, and for two of Percy's most canonical poems, 'Hymn to Intellectual Beauty' and 'Mont Blanc', the second of which was published for the first time in History. He appeared in certain noteworthy productions. 3 - JFK, or John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was an American political leader who functioned as the 35th President of the US from 1961 till his assassination to the conclusion of his 3rd year in office. Kennedy was president throughout the height of the Cold War, and the majority of his time in office was spent handling the Soviet Union and Cuba. This volume introduces the field of gender history—its origins, development, reception, recalibrations, and frictions. It offers a set of working definitions of gender as a descriptive category and as a category of historical analysis, tracing the emergence, usage, and applicability of these entwined subjects. Inevitably political, gender history has taken aim at the broader field of historical narrative by asking who counts as a historical subject, what difference gender makes, and how attention to it subverts reigning assumptions of what power, culture, economics, and identity have been in the past—and what they are today.
