Summary

In "The Jews of Barnow: Stories," Karl Emil Franzos presents a poignant collection of vignettes that intricately explore the lives of the Jewish community in the fictional town of Barnow. Through vivid narratives that blend realism with rich character studies, Franzos captures the socio-economic struggles, cultural identities, and existential dilemmas faced by his characters. His prose is marked by a lyrical quality, infused with a deep sense of empathy that speaks to the broader Jewish experience in late 19th-century Eastern Europe, reflecting the tensions between tradition and modernity that defined the era. Karl Emil Franzos, a prominent German author of Jewish descent, draws upon his own background as a lens through which to depict the complexities of Jewish life. Born in what is now Ukraine, and later moving to Germany, Franzos became acutely aware of the cultural dislocation and societal challenges facing Jews during this transformative period. His personal experiences, coupled with a commitment to advocacy for Jewish rights, informed his literary voice, making his depictions both heartfelt and insightful. This collection is highly recommended for readers interested in Jewish literature, European history, or those seeking to understand the nuanced lives of marginalized communities. Franzos's work resonates powerfully today, serving as both a historical document and a reminder of the enduring strength of human resilience amidst adversity.

We live in a sexually mad world where God's gift of sex has been distorted through pornography, promiscuity, prostitution, abuse, trafficking, and rape. The church's position has been made clear throughout history: all sexual activity outside the boundaries of Christian marriage is sin. But rarely has the church honestly addressed the true needs of Christians who are struggling with sexual desires they believe to be counter to the Bible. So we hide our struggles and pretend to live above the erotic fray, or else we cozy up to the culture's redefinition of which sins are acceptable. But what does the Bible really say about sexual desire and sexual intimacy?

God Loves Sex offers a truly liberating, godly view of holy sensuality by recovering the clear meaning of the Song of Songs as God-sanctioned eroticism. Then it uses that lens to answer questions posed by a fictional new Christian struggling with expectations of sexual purity. It asks provocative questions, such as What does it mean to be both holy and filled with rich sexual desire? and How can our sexual struggles take us deeper into the purposes of God?

Pairing psychological insight with sound biblical scholarship, Allender and Longman bring it all out into the open, allowing Christians of any age and any marital status to discover sex the way God meant it to be.

The term evangelical is often poorly defined and frequently comes with cultural and political baggage. As the label has become more controversial, many Christians have begun to wonder if they should abandon it altogether.
Michael Reeves argues from a global, scriptural, and historical perspective that, while it's not necessary to discard the label altogether, Christians must return to the root of the term—the evangel, or "gospel"—in order to understand what it truly means. He identifies the theology of evangelicalism and its essential doctrine—the Father's revelation in the Bible, the Son's redemption in the gospel, and the Spirit's regeneration of the heart—calling believers to stand with integrity as people of the gospel.

The beauty of poetry is also practical. It is said in the Vedic scripture that to be a poet is one of the divine qualities possessed by devotees of the Lord. Like an ornament it enhances the character of a person, if he is using this poetry not for own sense gratification, but for glorification of the Supreme Person. That is the only work of a poet, namely to glorify the all-attractive person, literally Kṛṣṇa.
Words that do not glorify the All-attractive Person, Kṛṣṇa, are considered by saintly persons to be like places of pilgrimage for crows. Swan-like devotees who are actually residents of the kingdom of God do not derive any pleasure there. Thus, I follow in the footsteps of my spiritual teachers who were all expert poets and writers.
2016, as a believer and traveler I came to win back faith. Finding shelter with the wisdom texts of the Vedas, a doorway to self-realisation was opened. Self-realisation is nothing cheap, but the sole purpose of human existence. This human form of life is essentially meant for inquiring about the Absolute Truth.
When this mystical door opened, I had insight into spiritual truth, substantial, enlightened and blissful. In a state of meditation this spiritual drop touched my heart and I tried to get hold of it. Expressing my experiences in words of poetry helped to channel these spiritual visions and insights.
Once I sat on the Pacific Ocean and meditated. A vast consciousness surrounded me and I felt as if I was one with that vast consciousness. Later, I came back to an individual consciousness. I would read about this oneness experience, warned that this is māyā, illusion. In retrospect, this path of illusion (Mayavada) was enlightened by the spiritual master (Prabhupāda) who felt compassion with this delusioned seeker.
