Sinopse

Kālidāsa's "Sacontala; or, The Fatal Ring" is a masterpiece of classical Sanskrit literature that intricately weaves themes of love, fate, and the interplay between the human and divine. Set in an idyllic backdrop of ancient India, the play employs exquisite imagery and lyrical language, showcasing Kālidāsa's remarkable ability to evoke deep emotions through his characters' journeys. The narrative unfolds around the love story of Sacontala, a beautiful maiden, and King Dushyanta, embracing elements of romance and tragedy that resonate with the reader's understanding of dharma and kismet. The fusion of poetic dialogue and dramatic action highlights Kālidāsa's distinctive style, placing the work firmly in the context of the rich cultural heritage of Indian theatre. Kālidāsa, often hailed as one of the greatest poets and playwrights of ancient India, drew inspiration from his surroundings and the prevailing philosophical currents of his time. His works frequently reflect the influence of the Puranic traditions alongside a deep appreciation for nature, effectively enabling him to depict characters that embody both strength and vulnerability. This blend of realism with the ethereal captures the complexity of human emotions, indicating a personal understanding of love's joys and sorrows that could only arise from profound personal experience. "Sacontala; or, The Fatal Ring" is a compelling exploration of the human condition that transcends cultural boundaries. Readers of both ancient texts and modern literature alike will find its universal themes of love and loss deeply resonant. This timeless work invites contemplation of fate's role in our lives and is essential for anyone seeking to understand the intricacies of desire, identity, and the nature of destiny.

An anthology of stories can be a fun thing or a scary one.
Deciding what goes into an anthology can be daunting. Too much romance and some folks may decide it is ‘too mushy’. Put too much humour in, and others will say, ‘there is no substance’. Go with more science fiction, or fantasy, or horror, and you will have some folks just not pick up the book.
Finding the perfect ‘mix’ is a challenge for sure.
‘Stories to Share with My Partner – Book 3’ presents what I hope is a good mix of stories and poetry to make everyone happy.
You have some love stories, ‘The Red Bug’ and the ‘The Coat’, for example, while science fiction is covered in ‘When the Future Arrives’ and ‘Coordinates’.
Funny stories are what I enjoy writing about, and there are few in this book.
‘So That Is When the Fight Started’ is something many can relate too and in ‘Jerk’ I take a different approach to ‘superheroes’.
I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did when I wrote them.

In England the Victorian Age was about to become the past and a new age of worldwide wars of horror and slaughter would envelop and decimate generations, forever staining mankind.

The Century would see the World discover strengths. The Democracies would stand firm against Fascism and later Communism yet still keep its own elite and privileged in power and the rest of us underfoot.

The World was more connected than ever before. Culture accelerated its kaleidoscopic and interwoven journey. Transport delivered people by car and train and then aeroplane to far flung corners of the globe. Empires were at their zenith and ready to fragment with new nations, many troubled, rising from their decay.

The natural world continued to be plundered and pillaged for its resources by industries who pledged ‘more’ and ‘better’ and would clothe and feed a growing world yet sow the seeds now ready to devastate us in our current times.

The globe was as vibrant and violent as troubled and tarnished as it ever was. But new ideas, new political systems, new times changed everything once again.
