Sinossi

Reflecting on the career of a prominent poet, this biography focuses on Canadian wordsmith Barrie Nichol — more commonly known by his pen name, bpNichol — who was a practicing lay psychoanalyst and vice president of one the largest and long-lasting North American communes for more than a decade. Recognizing his international influence as both a visual and sound poet, Nichol's literary achievements are reviewed, including The Martyrology, a renowned, seven-volume poem, four novels, two musical comedies, six children's books, hundreds of hand-drawn visual poems, and even 10 episodes of Jim Henson's hit television series Fraggle Rock. Penned by one of Nichol's numerous literary collaborators, this account reveals the close connections among the writer's various activities, particularly how the autobiographical inquiries and Freudian dream theory linked with the young poet's biographical self-awareness. The book demonstrates how the Subject's main psychoanalytic client was his own writing, following Nichol as he explored its slips, accidental puns, and unintended meanings and implications for the communal future of the human species, both in high literature and comical prime time television.

How did personal convictions lead to religious revolutions in the lives of the Sahabah? Explore the transformative power of belief through the lives of those who walked with the Prophet. The Sahabah are the Muslim companions of the Prophet Muhammad. This category of people are known as Ahl-Kitab Sahabah because they had previously believed in the previous Islamic prophets such as Moses and Jesus as well as books of divine revelation prior to meeting Muhammad and confirming his message as the God-given truth. These were the contemporary disciples of Muhammad who were Jews and Christians who met him and became Muslims. In the heart of Islamic history, former Jews and Christians like Abdullah bin Salam and Salman al-Farsi changed their entire worldviews, embracing Islam after profound encounters with the Prophet Muhammad. The author, a former Christian who became Muslim himself, brings these stories to life, highlighting the themes of wisdom, humility, and the quest for truth. The narratives are embedded with historical contexts, showing how personal journeys of faith and conversion contributed to the spread and enrichment of Islam. By turning the pages of this book, you engage with stories that not only recount historical facts but also inspire personal reflection and societal understanding.

This is a combo of two titles, which are about the following topics:
The Partition of Ireland: The Federal government of the U.K. of Great Britain and Ireland segmented Ireland into 2 independent polities: Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. The government of Ireland Act 1920 was handed down May third, 1921. Both parts were to stay inside the UK, and the Act included arrangements for supreme reunification.
Northern Ireland was established with a devolved federal government and stayed a part of the U.K. Most occupants of Southern Ireland didn't recognize the self-proclaimed Irish Republic, choosing to recognize the larger Northern Ireland. The area of Southern Ireland withdrew from the U.K. and ended up being the Irish Free State, which is today the Republic of Ireland, following the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
The Irish Potato Famine: The year 1847, at times called "Black '47," was the absolute worst year of the period. Around 1 million people died and over a million left the nation throughout the Great Cravings, triggering the nation's population to come by 20% to 25%, with certain cities coming by as much as 67 percent between 1841 and 1851. And between the years 1845 and 1855, about 2.1 million people were leaving Ireland, primarily aboard package ships but also on steamboats and barks. This actually made it one of the biggest mass migrations from a single isle in all of history.
Let’s explore this tragic event in history, and let’s see what led up to this, what happened afterwards, and how historians look at it now.

In December 1832 a farmer found the body of a young, pregnant woman hanging near a haystack outside a New England mill town. When news spread that Methodist preacher Ephraim Avery was accused of murdering Sarah Maria Cornell, a factory worker, the case gave the public everything they found irresistible: sexually charged violence, adultery, the hypocrisy of a church leader, secrecy and mystery, and suspicions of insanity. Murder in a Mill Town tells the story of how a local crime quickly turned into a national scandal that became America's first "trial of the century."

After her death, Cornell's choices about work, survival, and personal freedom became enmeshed in stories that Americans told themselves about their new world of industry and women's labor and the power of religion in the early republic. Ordinary people gave testimony that revealed rapidly changing times. As the controversy of Cornell's murder spread beyond the courtroom, the public eagerly devoured narratives of moral deviance, abortion, suicide, mobs, "fake news," and conspiracy politics. Long after the jury's verdict, the nation refused to let the scandal go.

A meticulously reconstructed historical whodunit, Murder in a Mill Town exposes the troublesome workings of criminal justice in the young democracy and the rise of a sensational popular culture.
