Summary
'The Long Winding Road' is a story of Second Chance Love; the tale of two young lovers, Laura and Tony, who meet on a blind date and fall in love. Laura, remembering the sad life her mother had, marrying young and bearing a large family, loves Tony deeply, but is unable to commit to their relationship at this time in her life, vowing to enjoy life while she is still young, and to obtain her teaching degree.Despite her love for Tony, an airman stationed at the Air Force base, and the growing sexual needs of their relationship, Laura's need for male attention, and her bad decisions, especially after a few drinks, lead Tony to believe that she cannot be trusted, creating ongoing conflicts in their relationship. Tony's proposal of marriage is accepted by Laura, and after Tony is discharged and leaves to go to school downstate, he returns one weekend to surprise Laura, who is not at her dorm. Waiting for her to return, Tony finds her getting out of a car, drunk, her blouse unbuttoned and her breasts exposed, Tony leaves her, telling her that, apparently, his love for her is not enough; she seems always to need more. While their separation is devastating for both, during her remaining time in college, Laura meets another airman who proposes marriage, but although she loves him, she cannot accept his conditions that would require her to forego her education and drop out of school. After almost two years, Tony returns to attend a program commemorating the impact of the Air Force base on the community, and their chance meeting at a local restaurant rekindles a love that, for both, had never ended; as Laura learns the true meaning of Family, and the role it plays in their relationship.
