Summary

The Black Codex of José Hernández

(Medieval historical fiction novel set in the 11th century A.D.)

Adventure, intrigue, action and excitement in a medieval story.

The Black Codex

The Black Codex is a story of passion, intrigue, and power in a time no longer remembered. It is revealed through the investigations of Raquel, a young engineer who is shocked by a detail in a Romanesque church in the Lleida Pyrenees. Throughout the development of the story, she is accompanied by Xavier Rivas, professor of medieval history at the University of Girona, with whom she begins a very close relationship.

At a time when legend and reality intertwine in the night of time, in 1035, a year of convulsions in general, Wilfred of Berga, his wife and Leodovico, a minstrel who has recently arrived in the region and who brings with him legends from distant lands, will begin a search for the impossible that will defy both reason and faith and will unleash the wrath of the darkest powers.

A powerful portrait of the Middle Ages with main characters such as Oliba, Guillermos de Besalú, the King of Navarre, the Bishop of Urgel... A combination of characters who go to the place where it all began, the Lleida Pyrenees, where it will have a dramatic end as a result of internal struggles between feudal lords, whose entire conflict is recorded in a cursed book: The Black Codex.

I wasn't looking forward to finding a new roommate after my best friend, Joy, moved in with her girlfriend, Ezra. We've lived together for years, and I didn't want to start over with a stranger. Then there's a fire at the house Lark's renting and for some reason I open my mouth and offer to let her move in with me.

Lark Conroy, the same woman I had one blisteringly hot night with months ago and have pretended to be normal around ever since. When it comes to love, I'm allergic to romance. I like to hit-it and quit-it and move on with my life.

There's no reason I can't be cordial and normal with Lark while we live together temporarily. We're both mature adults. Well, I'm not that mature, but I can fake it.

Turns out pretending I don't want to kiss Lark every waking moment is harder than I thought, and spending time with her is giving me feelings that I've never had before and don’t know what to do with. I'm in a situation and I have absolutely no idea how to stop myself from falling in love with her, or if I even want to.

Erin Marie Talley was lost. She’s hit about every traumatic major life event a woman could hit. And just on the dawn of turning forty. A cheating husband after over twenty years of marriage, a doctor’s visit bringing a recovery from surgery, and in her old childhood bedroom back at her parent's house, no less. Two kids in tow, a chocolate Lab named Bosco and a very tired old Chevy Impala. Not much more. This wasn’t the kind of mid-life crisis she expected. Her fifteen-year-old daughter helped her find a temporary escape in the form of a podcast that aired an older author's short stories. Listening to those and reading his books seemed to steal her from the boredom of bedbound and drowning in self-pity. His stories made her feel vibrant and happy again. An old high school bestie shows up at just the right time in Erin’s life to prod her on a road trip that may change her life. Sure, there are some quiet warning signs that maybe things aren’t exactly as they appear, but what has she got to lose? Travel along while two forty-year-old best friends reconnect and discover that life doesn’t have to end at that dreaded pre-determined number. In fact, it might just be a new beginning.
