Summary

In "The Public School Word-book," John Stephen Farmer presents a comprehensive lexicon tailored for students and educators within the public school system of late 19th-century England. Crafted with meticulous attention to the nuances of language, Farmer employs a clear and didactic literary style that encourages an engaging discovery of vocabulary, contextualized within the educational ethos of the time. This reference work not only illuminates the words but also their meanings and proper usages, reflecting the Victorian emphasis on moral and intellectual development through education. John Stephen Farmer, an influential figure in education and lexicography, was deeply rooted in the academic values of his era. His experiences as a teacher and a commitment to enhancing the learning experience for children undoubtedly informed his motivation to compile this work. Farmer's background in education and his keen interest in language made him a suitable vessel for bridging the gap between classical scholarship and practical application in the classroom. "The Public School Word-book" is an invaluable resource for educators, students, and anyone interested in the evolution of English vocabulary. It not only serves as a practical guide to word usage but also provides insight into the educational practices of the time. I highly recommend this book for its historical significance and its enduring relevance to language education.

We broke our new series on learning Thai down into different learning stages. Start with the “Lower Beginner” books followed by the “Beginner” and “Upper Beginner” books. Next, progress to the “Intermediate” series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the “Conversations” series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Thai. The sample will give you a taste of what you can look forward to.
In Unit 1 you will hear Thai decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said. Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Thai speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Thai. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Thai at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Thai, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences. In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.

If you want to improve your Norwegian skills, and are currently at levels A2 – B2 or above, this book may provide a fun learning experience for you!
This language learners ebook and accompanying audiobook aim to provide intermediate learners of Norwegian with a tool to practice their writing.
The book may be said to consist primarily of two components: the selected texts, which are short essays and stories on a given topic, and simple exercises derived from those texts. All the essays are written by a single learner over the span of around one year.
This is not a traditional language textbook, and as such will not contain any systematic representations of grammar or vocabulary beyond what is directly relevant to the sample texts. Since the texts were compiled with intermediate to advanced learners in mind, the reader is assumed to have a corresponding level of familiarity with Norwegian grammar and vocabulary.
Some chapters of the audiobook are read by the Norwegian learner who wrote the stories/essays (who is not a native speaker of Norwegian), and some other chapters are read by the Norwegian co-editor.
