Summary

Drawing on his fascination with the natural world and human nature, John Power presents us with a collection of short stories that peer around the corner of life.
Each self-contained story captures a snapshot, a scene, a momentary observation to highlight both the beauty and brutality of our natures. Set in different countries and epochs, these poetic, fable-like tales are linked by a single, arbitrary thread: a reference to air travel.

An inventor tries to gain funding for a new kind of butterfly-powered airship.
An introverted child is obsessed with leaving the ground.
An ancient landscape speaks to a hiker with sounds of growth and decay.

With sting-in-the-tail resolutions and piercing honesty, Air Lines: Short Stories to Be Read on Planes investigates the truth behind our interactions with ourselves and others.

John Power is an Australian journalist, editor, and author. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree from The University of Melbourne and a Graduate Diploma in Publishing & Editing from Monash University.

His first book of fiction, Life Training: Short Stories to Be Read on Trains, was published by Longueville Books.
Available since: 01/29/2024.

A ruined reputation. A second chance. A conflict between love and ambition.
Genevieve Porter was forced to flee the art world of Manhattan after she blew the whistle on the shady practices of a powerful dealer. Now she owns a small gallery in the scenic beach town of Cambria, California. For Gen, this is a place to regroup; she’s poised to restore her name in the art world and return to New York in triumph.
When she meets Ryan Delaney, a cattle rancher who’s more than he appears to be, she’s ready for a sexy roll in the hay—literally. But as her feelings for him become more than casual, she realizes that his roots on the Central Coast go back generations, and it’s going to be a challenge to lure him away from his family’s land.
If they’re going to make a life together, one of them will have to give up old ideas, old goals—old feelings about what success means, and what makes a place a true home.
CAMBRIA SKY is the second book in the Main Street Merchants series by Linda Seed, but it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone romance. Read the series readers have called “funny,” “delightful,” and “captivating.”

The Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) has been pulled onto three cases at the same time; meanwhile, VBI head Joe Gunther has to take time off to care for his ailing mother.
Those cases are now in the hands of the individual investigators. Sammie Martens is assigned a murder case. The victim is a young woman, the roommate of the daughter of medical examiner Beverly Hillstrom. A recent transplant from Albany, New York, Sammie must find out what put a hit man on the trail of this seemingly innocent young woman.
Lester Spinney takes over a famous cold case, a double murder where a state trooper and a motorist were killed in an exchange of gunfire. Or so it has seemed for years. When Lester is told that the motorist’s fingerprints were planted on the gun he’s supposed to have fired, it opens the question―who really killed the state trooper?
Willy Kunkle’s case starts with a child’s discovery of three teeth on a railroad track, leading eventually to a case of possible sabotage against critical military equipment.
In cases that lead the team all over Vermont and nearby, Archer Mayor once again shows why his novels featuring Joe Gunther and the VBI team are among the finest in crime fiction today.
