John L. Ransom joined the Union Army during the American Civil War in November 1862 and served as Quartermaster of Company A, 9th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry. In 1863 he was captured in Tennessee and taken to the notorious Andersonville prison. During his imprisonment he kept a diary of his experiences.Andersonville Diary brings Ransom's story of his day-to-day struggle in the worst of Confederate prisons, where hundreds of prisoners died daily.
