The legality of abortion in the United States is subject to individual state laws. In 1973, Roe v. Wade made the first abortion case to be taken to the Supreme Court, which had made it federally legal. In 1992, Roe was partially overturned by Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which stated that states cannot place legal restrictions posing an undue burden for "the purpose or effect of placing a substantial obstacle in the path of a woman seeking an abortion of a nonviable fetus." In 2022, both Roe and Casey were overturned, and abortions are now subject to regulations based on state laws once again. Individual states can regulate and limit the use of abortion, some of which already have through the use of "trigger laws", which made abortion illegal within the first and second trimesters when Roe was overturned. Eight states—Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Wisconsin—still have pre-Roe abortion bans in their laws, which may be enforced too.
This reading provides a thorough overview of the federal legalisation regarding the legality of abor-tion. It presents a judicial history and legislative response of the US federal institutions. In addition this collection is enriched with information which are indispensable part of every abortion debate in the United States.

    How America Worksand Why It...

Twenty-first-century America isn’t working the way it’s supposed to.
    This book explains why.
Americans in the twenty-first century are becoming increasingly untethered from both reality and the essential principles and traditions that have shaped the nation’s historic success. A big part of why America isn’t working is because far too many Americans neither know nor care how it’s supposed to work.
“William Cooper presents an insightful, sensitive, and accessible account of the trials that face American democracy in the twenty-first century. This fair- and broad-minded volume makes compelling reading for those who are looking to build a better democracy.” Alexander Yen, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford
“Partisanship fuels personal convictions more than ever in our society, and convictions fuel mysided thinking and other cognitive biases. At no time have we needed this discussion of bias and partisan thinking more than now.” Keith E. Stanovich, author of The Bias That Divides Us
“William Cooper logically and authoritatively takes you step by step through all the reasons a President Trump couldn’t imprison his enemies, pardon his friends, overrule judges, weaponize the Department of Justice, prosecute Joe Biden, or order the military to enforce his unconstitutional actions” Cleveland Plain Dealer
“William Cooper is an insightful and thought-provoking writer about US politics. He deserves to be widely read.” Thomas Plate, former Editorial Page Editor, Los Angeles Times
"In How America Works . . . and Why It Doesn’t, William Cooper gives a thoughtful, readable guide to what ails American democracy. Required reading for any student of political science.” Uri Kaufman, author of Eighteen Days in October
"A must-read. His well-written and brief book covers a lot of important ground in a learned but accessible manner. Probably most noteworthy, though, is his astute and fair judgment―the book is not a polemic for the left or the right, but rather a fair appraisal of the strengths and weaknesses of both. I highly recommend reading it―it is an enjoyable tour of key aspects of history (as well as current events), ethics, political philosophy, constitutional law, environmental science, and cognitive psychology―all told in a lucid, efficient way." William O'Donohue, PhD, Professor, University of Nevada, Reno

A vivid, brilliant, darkly humorous and horrifying history of some of the strangest dictators that Europe has ever seen.
'A witty and page-turning narrative full of grotesque characters' Misha Glenny

'Kenyon relates all this with verve [and] humour ... He patiently untangles the complicated webs of loyalty and enmity' Literary Review

'Absolutely essential reading for anyone interested in Romania past and present' John Simpson

Balanced precariously on the shifting fault line between East and West, Romania's schizophrenic, often violent past is one of the great untold stories of modern Europe.

The country that gave us Vlad Dracula, and whose citizens consider themselves descendants of ancient Rome, has traditionally preferred the status of enigmatic outsider. But this beautiful and unexplored land has experienced some of the most disastrous leaderships of the last century.

After a relatively benign period led by a dutiful King and his vivacious British-born Queen, the country oscillated wildly. Its interwar rulers form a gallery of bizarre characters and extreme movements: the corrupt and mentally unbalanced King Carol; the fascist death cult led by Corneliu Codreanu; the vain General Ion Antonescu, who seized power in 1940 and led the country into a catastrophic alliance with Nazi Germany. After 1945 power was handed to Romania's tiny communist party, under which it experienced severe repression, purges and collectivisation.

Then in 1965, Nicolae Ceau?escu came to power. And thus began the strangest dictatorship of all.

In a political landscape defined by patronage, personality, and pageantry, The Filipino Politician: How To Become A Typical Trapo Politician In The Philippines cuts through the rhetoric to reveal the tactics that keep traditional politicians—"trapos"—in power. Whether you're an aspiring local leader, a community organizer, or simply curious about how influence is really brokered, this book offers a pragmatic blueprint grounded in Philippine realities. From barangay halls to national capitols, discover how seasoned trapos build loyalty, neutralize rivals, and shape public opinion.
Inside, you'll explore ten in‑depth chapters packed with concrete strategies:Designing Patronage Machines that bind constituents through targeted appointments and contracts.Mastering Media Narratives with rapid‑response spin, social‑media micro‑targeting, and smear tactics.Legal and Bureaucratic Neutralization via audits, red‑tape maneuvers, and regulatory leverage.Crisis Exploitation—turning typhoons, scandals, and pandemics into political capital.
You'll also learn the subtle arts of public posturing vs. private deals—projecting fierce nationalism while courting foreign investment behind closed doors—and strategic non‑alignment, playing great powers off one another for maximum aid and loans. Harness the psychology of unpredictability to keep allies hopeful and adversaries on edge, and employ symbolism and pageantry—uniforms, rituals, and ceremonies—to reinforce authority and unity.

    American Presidents in Diplomacy...

    Thomas R. Parker

American Presidents in Diplomacy and War chronicles the major foreign policy crises faced by twelve American presidents in order to uncover the reoccurring patterns of successful and less successful uses of diplomatic, economic, and military power. In this book, Thomas R. Parker reveals how America's most successful leaders manage events instead of allowing events to control them.

Parker explores how the U.S. presidency, from the days of the early Republic to the present, shaped the world. Ranging from George Washington to George H. W. Bush, Parker shows how successful statecraft requires the understanding of complex situations, the prudent evaluation of various courses of action, the ability to adapt and to anticipate, and personal determination. Parker compares each of these leaders to their contemporaries—reasonable political leaders who nonetheless made serious mistakes, such as Thomas Jefferson and Barack Obama—to examine the dangers of being unable to strike the right balance of aggressiveness and caution and to examine the costs of inexperience and ambivalence toward military power. The book concludes by discussing the increasingly complex international situation of today, particularly the manifold challenges posed by China and Russia to U.S. foreign policy, and the continued necessity of effective statecraft.
