Sinossi

The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan is a 1678 Christian allegory written by John Bunyan. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of theological fiction in English literature and a progenitor of the narrative aspect of Christian media.

It has been translated into more than 200 languages and never been out of print. It appeared in Dutch in 1681, in German in 1703 and in Swedish in 1727. The first North American edition was issued in 1681. It has also been cited as the first novel written in English.

According to literary editor Robert McCrum, "there's no book in English, apart from the Bible, to equal Bunyan's masterpiece for the range of its readership, or its influence on writers as diverse as William Thackeray, Charlotte Bronte, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mark Twain, CS Lewis, John Steinbeck and even Enid Blyton."

Bunyan began his work while in the Bedfordshire county prison for violations of the Conventicle Act of 1664, which prohibited the holding of religious services outside the auspices of the established Church of England.

Early Bunyan scholars such as John Brown believed The Pilgrim's Progress was begun in Bunyan's second, shorter imprisonment for six months in 1675, but more recent scholars such as Roger Sharrock believe that it was begun during Bunyan's initial, more lengthy imprisonment from 1660 to 1672 right after he had written his spiritual autobiography Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners.

You don't have to be everything to everyone. You don't have to try so hard to button it up and hold it together. Join best friends and coauthors Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan as they reveal how women today can walk in the true liberty we already have in Jesus.
For all the fullness of God available to his daughters, we often feel limited by two defining insecurities: "I am too much" and "I am not enough."
Jess and Hayley felt the same until one essential question turned the tables: If God is wild and free and he created women, what does this mean for us today?
Wild and Free is an invitation to find freedom from the cultural captivity that holds us back, and freedom to step into God's wild and holy call in our lives. Jess and Hayley answer difficult questions that so many women have asked them over the years, including:How do I compete with the burden of expectation of what women are "supposed" to be?Where do I actually fit in?How can I start living out my God-given identity every day of my life?

With fresh biblical insight tracing all the way back to Eve and a treasury of practical application, Jess and Hayley reveal how women today can walk in the true liberty we already have in Jesus--because you certainly don't have to quiet the voice that God gave you when he created you to sing.
Wild and Free will help you shake off the lies of insecurity in your life and step forward to maximize your God-given influence for his glory and the world's good.

These days, many of us live in a state of overreactive fight-or-flight response and chronic stress. The demands of modern life pull us in all directions and can often put the meaningful connections in our lives at risk—connections to our deepest selves, to others, and even to God.

But there is good news. New developments in brain science have recently proven that an intentional practice of pausing for a few minutes of meditation, prayer, or other contemplative practice actually rewires our brain in ways that make us calmer, less reactive, and better able to see the bigger picture.

In Practice the Pause, spiritual director and writer Caroline Oakes offers easy-to-understand explanations of how this new brain science is confirming what every spiritual tradition has been telling us for millennia: by practicing the pause, we become more self-aware and better able to understand others. We become more "God aware." With a refreshing focus on the Eastern Christian understanding of Jesus as a master of wisdom, Oakes shines a spotlight on Jesus's own centering pause practice as a transformative path for personal and social change. We learn that even a seven-second pause practice can move us beyond the fight-or-flight responses of our ego in our daily lives and actually equip us to cultivate the common good in the world.
