Summary

All three books in John Broughton's 'Saint Cuthbert Trilogy', a series of historical fiction set in medieval England, now in one volume!

Heaven In A Wild Flower: In 7th century Northumbria, Aella survives war and gains the patronage of the king and friendship of Bishop Cuthbert. Commissioned to create a masterpiece for Lindisfarne, Aella impresses King Aldfrith who sends him to Ireland to learn to read and write. There, Aella makes friends, learns to illuminate manuscripts, and falls in love, but can he achieve his dreams and marry the love of his life?

The Horse-Thegn: Set in late 9th century Northumbria, where Viking attacks and Danish settlers are a constant threat, Cynn is a royal Horse-Thegn who aims to bring peace and integration to his estates. Charged by the king to end the violent attacks of a group led by the elusive Edred, Cynn faces open revolt against legitimate rule. In a kingdom facing external threats, can Cynn achieve his goal of a durable and prosperous future as they enter a new century?

The Master Of The Chevron: The third novel in John Broughton’s Saint Cuthbert trilogy follows the lifelong friendship of a studious monk and a bluff mason, Thurgot and Kenrick, respectively, after the Norman Conquest. Thurgot senses Kenrick’s destiny when he saves him from drowning near the Farne Isles, and their Christian beliefs and pragmatic talents help them overcome obstacles of revolt, persecution, and hardship in eleventh- and twelfth-century Northumbria. Their legacy is still present today in the work of the first master mason in Durham.

In this powerful late novel by Pulitzer Prize–winning author Edith Wharton, a woman returns to the world she once abandoned—and must face the consequences of a past she cannot escape.
Kate Clephane left her husband and daughter years ago in pursuit of passion and freedom, only to find herself isolated and forgotten by the society she once knew. When she finally returns to America, she hopes to rebuild her life and reconnect with her grown daughter, Anne. But her second chance at happiness becomes dangerously complicated when she forms an unexpected bond with the very man her daughter loves.
Set against the refined yet unforgiving world of upper-class society, The Mother’s Recompense explores guilt, desire, social judgment, and the cost of personal choices. Edith Wharton delivers a deeply psychological and emotionally charged story about motherhood, sacrifice, and the search for redemption in a world ruled by appearances.
This audiobook narration by Tracy Peace brings new depth to Wharton’s elegant prose, capturing the tension, restraint, and quiet tragedy that define one of her most thought-provoking works.
Perfect for listeners who enjoy classic literature, women’s fiction, and character-driven drama, this timeless novel remains as compelling today as when it was first published in 1925.

Discover Philip K. Dick's chilling post-apocalyptic masterpiece "The Defenders," where humanity hides underground while robot "leadies" wage nuclear war above. But when humans venture to the surface, they uncover a shocking conspiracy that challenges everything they believe. This thought-provoking short story showcases Dick's genius for blending paranoia, deception, and profound questions about reality—themes that would later inspire blockbuster films like Blade Runner and Total Recall. Explore the Cold War allegory that remains disturbingly relevant today, as Dick forces us to confront the machinery of war and question who truly controls our fate. A must-read classic from science fiction's most prescient and philosophical voice.

Love takes patience. So does honey.
When Laurel Hayes inherits her grandfather's weathered farm and a handful of stubborn hives, she plans to settle the debts, sell the land, and outrun her grief. Then Jonah Walker—bivocational youth pastor, next-door neighbor, and quiet keeper of second chances—offers help that looks a lot like hope. What begins as a practical partnership to start a small honey co-op becomes something deeper as wildflowers return to the ridge, neighbors gather around supper tables, and whispered prayers steady unsteady hearts.
But saving the farm will take more than hard work. A lean harvest, a skeptical town board, and the tug of Laurel's old life test what they're building. Jonah carries losses he doesn't talk about; Laurel wrestles with a future she never planned. Together, they must learn the beekeeper's lesson: trust the process, tend what's entrusted, and wait for the sweet in God's good time.
The Beekeeper of Bethany Ridge is a clean, wholesome Christian romance about community, calling, and the gentle way grace mends what's broken. If you love small-town settings, slow-burn tenderness, and faith woven through everyday life, this heartwarming story will leave you smiling long after the last page.
