Summary

All three books in John Broughton's 'Saint Cuthbert Trilogy', a series of historical fiction set in medieval England, now in one volume!

Heaven In A Wild Flower: In 7th century Northumbria, Aella survives war and gains the patronage of the king and friendship of Bishop Cuthbert. Commissioned to create a masterpiece for Lindisfarne, Aella impresses King Aldfrith who sends him to Ireland to learn to read and write. There, Aella makes friends, learns to illuminate manuscripts, and falls in love, but can he achieve his dreams and marry the love of his life?

The Horse-Thegn: Set in late 9th century Northumbria, where Viking attacks and Danish settlers are a constant threat, Cynn is a royal Horse-Thegn who aims to bring peace and integration to his estates. Charged by the king to end the violent attacks of a group led by the elusive Edred, Cynn faces open revolt against legitimate rule. In a kingdom facing external threats, can Cynn achieve his goal of a durable and prosperous future as they enter a new century?

The Master Of The Chevron: The third novel in John Broughton’s Saint Cuthbert trilogy follows the lifelong friendship of a studious monk and a bluff mason, Thurgot and Kenrick, respectively, after the Norman Conquest. Thurgot senses Kenrick’s destiny when he saves him from drowning near the Farne Isles, and their Christian beliefs and pragmatic talents help them overcome obstacles of revolt, persecution, and hardship in eleventh- and twelfth-century Northumbria. Their legacy is still present today in the work of the first master mason in Durham.

In a lively village near a sprawling meadow, dwelt Max, a resourceful mouse, and Oliver, a cunning cat known for his mischief. Max, celebrated for his quick wit and daring exploits, outmaneuvered Oliver's clever traps daily, navigating the village with ease.
Oliver, sleek and sly, lounged in the sun devising new schemes to catch Max, who always managed to slip away. One sunny morning, as Max dashed past, he encountered Oliver under an oak tree. "Good morning, Oliver!" Max greeted cheerfully.
Perking up at Max's voice, Oliver teased about his latest invention, the Cheese-o-Matic 3000, a temptingly baited trap. Max, intrigued yet wary, accepted Oliver's challenge to resist it for a day. Throughout, Max evaded traps with agility and cunning, while Oliver observed, adjusting strategies to no avail.
At sunset, facing the Cheese-o-Matic 3000 once more, Max resisted temptation, winning Oliver's respect and a truce. Oliver conceded, declaring peace for the village mice. Their rivalry evolved into mutual admiration, forging an enduring bond celebrated in village lore.
The tale of Max and Oliver, a testament to friendship and wit, resonated across generations, fostering camaraderie and understanding among the village's diverse inhabitants.

When master thief–turned–Special Corps agent Slippery Jim diGriz uncovers blueprints that perfectly match the long-extinct Warlord-class battleships, he realizes the galaxy faces a threat no one else has even noticed. A planet that should have no interest in war is secretly building the most devastating ship ever conceived — and no one in power seems to know why.
Determined to uncover the truth, diGriz burrows through layers of forged orders, bribed officials, falsified records, and one staggeringly bold deception. But when the completed battleship vanishes and innocent ships begin turning up as drifting wreckage, diGriz is forced into a deadly pursuit against a criminal mind whose ambition is matched only by their audacity. The chase leads to betrayal, manipulation, and a reveal that even diGriz’s nimble instincts never anticipated.
Harry Harrison (1925–2012) was a legendary name in science fiction, celebrated for his sharp wit, inventive plots, and breakneck pacing. A veteran illustrator turned writer, Harrison developed a distinct style built on clever twists, cleverer heroes, and a playful disregard for authority — themes showcased brilliantly in the Stainless Steel Rat adventures.
Known for classics like Make Room! Make Room! (the basis for Soylent Green), Deathworld, and Bill, the Galactic Hero, Harrison blended humor, adventure, and social commentary in ways few writers matched. His work continues to influence sci-fi storytellers across books, comics, radio, and film.

Just when Marla Gawama thinks she might be getting the hang of her detective doo-ties, the universe has to go and prove her wrong.
The town of Gales Haven is highly eccentric—part of its charm—so Marla is no stranger to quirks.
But when the townsfolk start acting odder than usual, Marla realizes something is up. The friendly gigolo Danny isn’t the only one to make shmexy rounds to entertain the locals. And even the talking mouse who terrorizes the kitchen of Gawama Mama House is proving to be a horn-dog.
Since she’s stuck with the role of town detective, it’s up to her to figure out what the hell is going on and to return Haveners to their usual level of strangeness—not too much, just right. Though a town full of leg-humping witches and wizards is pretty funny.
Every good Gawama knows: “If you can’t fight the crazy, love the crazy.” And Marla is a Gawama witch through and through.
Pesky Potions is a humorous paranormal women’s fiction fantasy. If you love snarky stories with women so empowered they’re a force to be reckoned with, then you’ll love the Witches of Gales Haven series.
