Sinopse

Delving into the complex and tumultuous period of early American revolutionary thought, *Novanglus, and Massachusettensis* offers readers a compelling exploration of the ideological battles that predated the American Revolution. This anthology captures the fierce debates through a collection of essays and letters that highlight the contrasting viewpoints of loyalty to the British Empire versus the burgeoning desire for American independence. It presents a diverse tapestry of rhetorical styles and persuasively articulated positions, making it an indispensable document of the intellectual climate of the 1770s. Individually, pieces stand out for their keen articulation of escalating tensions and the vivid portraits they paint of a society on the brink of transformation. The contributors, John Adams and Daniel Leonard, bring a rich discourse to this anthology. Adams, a future founding father, and Leonard, a loyalist, represent the dichotomy of revolutionary thought through their writings. Their works align with and reflect the larger context of Enlightenment ideals and the era's push for political reform. The anthology is a confluence of historical influence and personal conviction, offering a comprehensive look into the authors' motivations and the broader movements that informed their stances during a pivotal moment in history. *Novanglus, and Massachusettensis* is an essential read for those interested in the formation of American political ideology and the dialectic process of revolution against governance. This collection allows readers to immerse themselves in the fervent discussions of its time, and encourages them to appreciate the complexity and dynamism of revolutionary thought. Through its diverse voices and insightful analyses, it not only educates but inspires a dialogue about governance, liberty, and historical interpretation, offering rich insights that remain relevant even in contemporary discourse.

The criminal justice system is the cornerstone of maintaining order and enforcing laws in any society. It functions as the mechanism through which society addresses crime, ensures accountability, and administers justice. At its core, the system is composed of three key components: law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections. Each of these plays an essential role in maintaining balance, protecting the rights of individuals, and upholding the rule of law.
Law enforcement is the first point of contact for individuals involved in criminal activity. Police officers, detectives, and other law enforcement agencies are tasked with investigating crimes, making arrests, and ensuring public safety. They have the authority to detain individuals suspected of committing crimes and gather evidence to support prosecution. The relationship between law enforcement and the community is pivotal in ensuring a fair and just system. However, this power can be easily abused, leading to tensions, allegations of misconduct, and issues such as racial profiling.
Once a crime is detected and an arrest is made, the case moves into the court system, where judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys interact. The role of the judiciary is to oversee trials, ensure fair procedures, and make determinations of guilt or innocence. The prosecutor represents the state’s interest, aiming to secure a conviction based on evidence, while the defense attorney works to protect the rights of the accused, challenging the evidence and the actions of the prosecution. A jury may be involved in determining the outcome, offering a layer of public scrutiny over the decisions made.

“Ordinary morality is only for ordinary people.”
“A man who is doing his True Will has the inertia of the Universe to assist him.”
    “Intolerance is evidence of impotence.”
“The pious pretense that evil does not exist only makes it vague, enormous, and menacing.” Aleister Crowley

Aleister Crowley was born on October 12, 1875. He was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist, and mountaineer. He founded the religion of Thelema, identifying himself as the prophet entrusted with guiding humanity into the Æon of Horus in the early 20th century. A prolific writer, he published widely over the course of his life. Born to a wealthy family in Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, Crowley rejected his parents' fundamentalist Christian faith to pursue an interest in Western esotericism. He was educated at Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, where he focused his attention on mountaineering and poetry. Some biographers allege that here he was recruited into a British intelligence agency, further suggesting that he remained a spy throughout his life. In 1898 he joined the esoteric Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, where he was trained in ceremonial magic. Moving to Boleskine House by Loch Ness in Scotland, he went mountaineering in Mexico before studying Hindu and Buddhist practices in India. He married Rose Edith Kelly and in 1904 they honeymooned in Cairo, Egypt Crowley declared his followers should "Do what thou wilt" and seek to align themselves with their True Will through the practice of magick. Herein is a treasury of his long-lost writings as well as many devilish surprises!

Soon to be a MAJOR MOVIE. A gripping and heartbreaking story, A Thousand Miles from Care tells the 30-year quest Steve Johnson undertook to uncover the truth about his brilliant brother’s death.
At the entrance of Sydney Harbor, the cliffs rise fourteen stories above the Pacific, like a gigantic skirt made of sandstone. North Head, one of the most memorable cliffs, is a gorgeous place to watch the sunrise. But it’s an unforgiving place to lose your footing. When Steve Johnson’s younger brother Scott went over the edge in 1988, he hit an outcrop on the way down and exploded on the rocks below.
A Thousand Miles from Care draws upon the mountain of exclusive materials Steve amassed over his 32-year fight for answers, including sealed court transcripts, police records, interviews with suspects, inquest reports, correspondence with gang members, private investigations, and much else. It utilizes unique details, interview transcripts and insights based on Johnson’s close relationship with authorities and high-ranking New South Wales officials developed over more than three decades.
This profoundly impactful book traces the steps Steve Johnson, his family and friends took to solve the mystery of Scott’s alleged suicide, navigating an openly hostile police force and a maze of dead ends, unreliable informants, skinhead gangs, a faked confession, police-connected drug rings, and setbacks at every turn. A Thousand Miles from Care is above all, a love story between two brothers but shared by everyone who worked so long for truth and justice for Scott.
This autobiography is a best seller in the making, a non-fiction account of death, grief, and bereavement. It's a true story that explores the relationships between two brothers, making it a top choice for readers seeking heartfelt, real-life stories.
