Sinopsis

"Goethe: Complete Poetry" presents an authoritative collection of the poetic works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, one of Germany's foremost literary figures and a key figure in the Sturm und Drang movement. The anthology encapsulates the breadth of Goethe's genius, showcasing his mastery of forms ranging from lyrical short poems to profound philosophical reflections. Notably, his works reflect the Romantic ideals of emotion and individualism, while also engaging with classical themes, illuminating the transition in European literature from the Enlightenment to Romanticism. Through vivid imagery and rhythmic complexity, Goethe's poetry invites readers into a world of deep existential inquiry and vibrant natural imagery. Goethe was not only a writer but also a statesman, scientist, and philosopher, whose diverse intellectual pursuits significantly influenced his poetic voice. Growing up during the late 18th century in Frankfurt, his exposure to Enlightenment thought and German folklore allowed him to blend tradition with innovation in his works. His extensive travels throughout Europe also enriched his perspectives on love, nature, and society, informing his often contemplative yet impassioned poetry. This complete collection is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the evolution of poetic expression in Western literature. For scholars and casual readers alike, Goethe's poetry serves as a timeless exploration of the human experience, inviting deep reflection and appreciation. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of words and the infinite complexities of the human spirit.

We have a marvelous, almost legendary image of the circumstances in which the composition of this great poem began. Rainer Maria Rilke was staying at Duino Castle, on a rocky headland of the Adriatic Sea near Trieste.
One morning, he walked out onto the battlements and climbed down to where the cliffs dropped sharply to the sea. From out of the fierce wind, Rilke seemed to hear a voice: Wer, wenn ich schriee, horte mich denn aus der Engel Ordnungen? (If I cried out, who would hear me up there, among the angelic orders?).
He wrote these words, the opening of the first Duino Elegy, in his notebook, then went inside to continue what was to be his major opus—completely only after another ten, tormented years of effort—and one of the literary masterpieces of the century.
Duino Elegies speaks in a voice that is both intimate and majestic on the mysteries of human life and our attempt, in the words of the translator David Young, “to use our self-consciousness to some advantage: to transcend, through art and the imagination, our self-deception and our fear.”

Camelot is in trouble. If King Arthur doesn't turn things around soon, his reign will be remembered as nothing more than a rather dull period in British history. Enter three hapless squires with a plan... and a legend is born.
This hilarious retelling of the Arthurian legends brings to life King Arthur (obvs), the lovely Guinevere, the enigmatic Merlin, the Lady of the Lake and the Lady of Shalott, the evil Morgana and her troublesome son Mordred, and more Knights than you can fit round an oblong table.
Following in the hoofsteps of Le Navet Bete's previous hit adaptations, Dracula: The Bloody Truth, The Three Musketeers and Treasure Island, all co-created with John Nicholson (The Hound of the Baskervilles), it toured the UK in 2023 and 2024.
Originally performed by three actors playing several dozen characters, King Arthur offers rich opportunities for any theatre company, drama group or Round Table to create their own legendary production and a spectacular knight to remember.

Quietly reflective, the beautifully written poems in this slim volume offer a welcome respite from the noisy insistence of modern life. The language, now simple and direct, now rich in associations, double-meanings, and imagery, has its own natural rhythm and appeal regardless of subject and rhyme. Intriguing, absorbing, thought-provoking, the poems are innovative and fresh and the intensity of the verses in places will undoubtedly strike a chord with readers of all kinds - both established readers of poetry, those who read poetry now and again, and those
turning to poetry for the first time. Largely relating one person's take on how it is to be in the world, the poems address such aspects of life as time, being, loss, culture, and contingency. The collection is divided into three sections - non-rhyming poems, rhyming poems, and a
concluding section of lighter, more humorous verses, with each of two additional poems serving as foreword and afterword.

Poems about modern romance by a modern romantic
Moving through a human landscape that exists both in the past and present, the speaker/speakers in This is the Emergency Present attempt to unearth an understanding about love, romanticism, and connection. Using chemistry and physics, the early works of Pablo Neruda, and the abstract broken language around him, Vincent Pagé attempts to define something tangible about presence and absence. By asking "at what point in a transition/ does one thing become the other thing?" he challenges us to consider what it means to be here, and at what point are we finally there?
