Sinopse

Hale: The Prophet's Journal is JK Noble's sequel to her debut fantasy novel Hale: The Rise of the Griffins. Hale's journey brought him into a brutal world of magic that tested his humanity. In a parallel realm, the Extraordinary Division, Hale learned he is a Griffin with supernatural talents. He found great allies and enemies, and discovered the truth about his connection to mentor, Bayo, the King of the Griffins. Histories and secrets were finally revealed, forcing Hale on a new mission. Heeding the words written in the late Elder Prophet's journal, and accompanied by his pack brothers, River and Evan, Hale must embark on a journey to salvation. Can Hale survive the dangerous outer lands of the Extraordinary Division, its violent creatures, and magic, or will he become what is prophesied—the destroyer of worlds? Return to the world of the Extraordinary, rich with diverse cultures, unique magic, treasures, shapeshifting Griffins, banshees, woodland demons, an eternal spirit guide, a young prophet, and the vessel of a man-killing siren!

The title is obscure and a bit unsettling I admit; what could it possible mean? Randall Garrett wrote a story here that had me blissfully going in the wrong direction until he quietly yanked the rug from under my feet and made me fume a bit with irritation and amazement. I loved it and hated it because it did not end the way I wanted it to but the way it obviously should. The society and culture in the galaxy he has presupposed is as fascinating as the story itself and I can only hope he expanded on it in other books somewhere. The publisher quotes another story by R. Phillip Dachboden to indicate what he meant "As every thinking man knows, every slave always yearns for the freedom his master denies him... But, gentlemen," said the Physician, "I really don't think we can consider any religion which has human sacrifice as an integral part as a humane religion." "At least," added the Painter with a chuckle, "not as far as the victim is concerned." The Philosopher looked irritated. "Bosh! What if the victim likes it that way?"

A contract killer. A gorgeous victim. And a mystic garden hidden beyond the Winter Court.
Remy Keaton is Aderyn Corff—the Death Bird—and a notorious assassin of the unseelie court. But what the fey don’t know is that Remy is a human… and that Remy hates killing. Too bad he’s so good at it.
When Remy is forced to track down and murder a beautiful sidhe Lady of the Court whose only crime is being more attractive than Queen Rhagathena, he must ask himself difficult questions. The orc warlord who pulls Aderyn Corff’s strings demands blood, but perhaps there is some wiggle room in the spider queen’s hit-list… and perhaps ascertaining that is the key to breaking free of the arcane vow that binds the human to the fey’s service.
Can Remy defeat the oath that has bound him to the spider queen’s service, or must he kill Lady Fenelope to satisfy the laws of his oath?
This short story is a prequel in the Curse of the Fey Duelist series, beginning in book 1: A Kiss of Daggers. If you like dark fantasy, paranormal, and urban fantasy with elves, magic, and mystery, then you need this book. For fans of Sarah J. Maas, Holly Black, or Cassandra Clare.

It is believed that the novel had a huge influence on the works of Orwell and Huxley, as well as on the emergence of the genre of dystopia.
A few hundred years after the One State's conquest of the entire world, the spaceship Integral is being built in order to invade and conquer extraterrestrial planets. Meanwhile, the project's chief engineer, D-503, begins a journal that he intends to be carried upon the completed spaceship.
Like all other citizens of One State, D-503 lives in a glass apartment building and is carefully watched by the secret police, or Bureau of Guardians. D-503's lover, O-90, has been assigned by One State to visit him on certain nights. She is considered too short to bear children and is deeply grieved by her state in life. O-90's other lover and D-503's best friend is R-13, a State poet who reads his verse at public executions...
