Life sucks when you’re twelve. You’re not a little kid, but you’re also not an adult, and all the grown-ups in your life talk about your body the minute it starts getting a shape. And what sucks even more than being a Chinese-Filipino-American-Guatemalan who can’t speak any ancestral language well? When almost every other girl in school has already gotten her period except for you and your two besties.

Manuela “Mani” Semilla wants two things: to get her period, and to thwart her mom’s plan of taking her to Guatemala on her thirteenth birthday. If her mom’s always going on about how dangerous it is in Guatemala, and how much she sacrificed to come to this country, then why should Mani even want to visit?

But one day, up in the attic, she finds secret letters between her mom and her Tía Beatriz, who, according to family lore, died in a bus crash before Mani was born.

But the letters reveal a different story. Why did her family really leave Guatemala?

What will Mani learn about herself along the way? And how can the letters help her to stand up against the culture of harassment at her own school?

From debut author Anna Lapera comes Mani Semilla Finds Her Quetzal Voice—a novel full of spunk and activist heart.

“Anna Lapera expertly voices a young girl’s middle school trials, with a voice so unique and heartfelt you will be cringing one moment and cheering the next. She weaves a distinctive story filled with humor, family heartache, and secrets while a young girl releases the fear of her voice and grasps its power.”—Newbery Medalist Donna Barba Higuera

Imagine living in such a cold, desolate but beautiful place as the Arctic.
Polar Bear shivers and quivers from the cold wind that blows and snowflakes that melt as they touch his warm nose….
What strange creatures Polar Bear sees around him - whales that dive deep into the ocean, penguins that waddle and slip and slide on the ice but can swim like a graceful ballerina under water, brightly coloured puffins who can fly and swim under water, the narwhal with its long pointed tusk………
There is a lot to learn for a polar bear cub and he needs to listen to mother and do what she says so that he stays happy and safe for the rest of his days.
Polar Bear, Polar Bear is a picture book for young children written in rhyme to encourage their imagination. It is an early introduction to this amazing animal and his environment under threat through climate change.
Encourage your child or class group to join in and read along with you. Follow the text with your finger so that early readers make a connection between the spoken and written word. Learn the rhythm and rhyme, act out the text and become a polar bear, the icy cold wind or the whales as they dive, waddle like a penguin or swoop like an Arctic tern…

Maurice Sendak's Caldecott Medal–winning picture book has become one of the most highly acclaimed and best-loved children's books of all time. This iconic story of Max and his journey to visit the Wild Things has inspired a movie, an opera, and the imagination of generations.
His mother called him “WILD THING!”

So he was sent to bed without eating anything.
That very night in Max’s room a forest grew
    and grew—
Mary Pols of Time magazine wrote that ""what makes Sendak's book so compelling is its grounding effect: Max has a tantrum and in a flight of fancy visits his wild side, but he is pulled back by a belief in parental love to a supper 'still hot.'"" Generations have shared this beautiful book, and readers of all ages will want to return to it again and again.New York Public Library's #4 book on the list of ""Top Check Outs of All Time""One of the National Education Association's ""Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children""The top picture book in School Library Journal's survey of its readers

In the sprawling, world-renowned Zootopia safari park, Francis the Zookeeper shares an extraordinary bond with every animal, from the tiniest insect to the most majestic beast. His connection is more than just care and devotion; it's a unique form of communication, a silent language of mutual understanding and love. This special relationship is most evident with his closest friends: Thor's gorilla troop, who greet him with gentle affection; Leo's magnificent lion pride, who offer licks of friendship; and Spartan's loyal wolf pack, who rush to his side with joyous howls. Francis is their confidant, their playmate, and their protector, sharing in their joys and comforting them in their sorrows.
However, the true source of this incredible bond is a secret known only to the animals. Francis is the reincarnation of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, returned to the world to continue his sacred work. Unbeknownst to the millions of visitors who admire Zootopia's splendor, the zookeeper's gentle authority and the animals' profound trust are not just a result of kindness, but of a divine and ancient connection. The animals, in their wisdom, recognize their saint and guardian, cherishing their time with him in their idyllic sanctuary, a living testament to a love that transcends the boundaries of species and time.
