Sinopse

In a time when looking into the past has become a socially unacceptable and illegal act in the Nation, a group of scholars are offered an attractive residency to allow them to pursue their projects. When the residency transpires to be a devastating trick, these Researchers go on the run, and soon discover that their projects all relate to one major event: the Isletese Disaster – the decline and subsequent devastation fifty years earlier of a long-forgotten roaming archipelago called The Islets.
One figure emerges as central to all of their work: Hester Heller, a reformed cult musiker turned student recruited from the Institute for Transmission as an agent of the state and tasked with gathering reconnaissance on the Disaster by using her old band Vehicle as a cover. Heller is the key to the Researchers collective story, which they try to piece together while evading their pursuers.
Compiled from the Researchers' disparate documentation, recollections, and even their imaginations, Vehicle is a timely and daring exploration of xenophobia, exploitation, the writing of histories and legacies, and the politics of translation.

Cast out by dragonkind, threatened by his own family . . . A dragon with nothing left to lose can be a dangerous thing.

Unless, of course, that dragon is Galen Stormwing. He's never been very dangerous. He was a failure at school, a failure at gaining powers, and a failure at keeping them.

Now his own parents have told him he needs to do something to impress them within three days, or they'll have him executed as an embarrassment to the clan. He does the only sensible thing he can think of.

He runs for it. Survival trumps pride, as far as Galen is concerned. Most dragons won't go to Canada, realm of the dwarf people, so that's where he must go.

But he's not the only one fighting for survival. Vala is a young dwarf in school to become an engineer when she begins exhibiting magical powers. There's never been a dwarf mage before, and not all her people are thrilled about it. In fact, some of them would rather see Vala dead than allow their race to become polluted in that manner.

Both of them are vulnerable, lost, alone—and hunted. But together, they might just have what they need to save each other!

‘An intensely dark thriller’ Ross Greenwood
When your whole life becomes one big lie…
The night my mum disappeared, after a panicked 3am phonecall, I knew something was wrong.
The police tried to reassure me. There had to be a logical explanation, they said – perhaps she’s taking a break after the tragic death of my father.
    But I know my mum.
    Or do I?
She would never leave without telling me.
    Or would she?
The harder I look, the more I discover deep, dark family secrets I was not privy to. Worrying secrets I was never meant to know. Which means my parents have lied to me my whole life.
    But why?
Who can I turn to? Trust? Were they scared of something in their past? Or were they trying to protect me? Has Mum gone of her own free will? Or has someone taken her?
Bestselling author Diane Saxon’s utterly compelling thriller will have you questioning who you can trust to keep your family safe.
    Praise for Diane Saxon:

Phantastes Audiobook by George MacDonald, with musical interpretations of the poems and songs therein by Nick HarperInspiring Lewis Carroll, C.S.Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and David Lindsay amongst others, Phantastes is acknowledged as the first modern fantasy novel for adults, Written by George MacDonald in 1858.The book tells the story of a young man's quest for meaning in the forest of fairyland, who awakens a marble lady from sleep by singing to her and his adventures thereafter, as he pursues her.I first read the book as a 17 year old, whilst living on the edge of a real ancient forest in the UK, learning to play the guitar, whilst pursuing a local beauty who lived on the other side of the forest..Re-reading it now, I have been reminded how much of a profound effect this strange little book had on me all those years ago. The antiquarian, dense Victorian style only seems to heighten the esoteric nature of its allegories, mysteries and wonders. More surprising and moving is how much it seems to have resonated in my life and music down the years..Love to you all. Adelaide Smith is too busy for fairy tales.

She's been working hard to put herself through law school, and she's determined to stay focused on her goals. Then she receives a letter notifying her that she is a direct descendant of King Maximillian Konig V, the ruler of a small European principality called Montovia.

What? No. That's the stuff of cheesy made-for-TV movies, not real life.

Still, curiosity gets the best of her, leading to a Christmas break trip chock-full of surprises, including a charming village, an opulent palace, family mysteries, royal jealousies, a handsome young member of Parliament, and the chance at a real-life fairy tale romance.

"Carlson puts a charming, Christmasy spin on a rags-to-royalty Cinderella story. Readers will cheer on Carlson's spunky, earnest heroine."--Publishers Weekly

"Carlson's latest impeccably written inspirational romance is wholesome holiday fun for readers who like their romances dressed up with a bit of fairy-tale glitz and glam."--Booklist
