There is no doubt that much of the material recorded in the first five books of the Old Testament is derived from the initiatory rituals of the Egyptian Mysteries. The priests of Isis were deeply versed in occult lore, and the Israelites during their captivity in Egypt learned from them many things concerning the significance of Divinity and the manner of worshiping It. The authorship of the first five books of the Old Testament is generally attributed to Moses, but whether or not he was the actual writer of them is a matter of controversy. There is considerable evidence to substantiate the hypothesis that the Pentateuch was compiled at a much later date, from oral traditions.

Andrew Jackson's rise to prominence began in the backwoods of the Carolinas, where he was born in 1767 to Irish immigrant parents. Orphaned at a young age and shaped by the violence of the Revolutionary War, Jackson's early years were filled with hardship and struggle. These formative experiences instilled in him a fierce independence and an unwavering sense of personal honor, traits that would define his character for the rest of his life. Largely self-taught and known for his fiery temper, Jackson developed a reputation for toughness, earning the nickname “Old Hickory” from soldiers who served under him. Despite limited formal education, he pursued a career in law and eventually moved westward to Tennessee, where he would find opportunity and recognition.
Jackson's military career was the first major platform that launched him into the national spotlight. During the War of 1812, he was appointed a general in the U.S. Army and quickly demonstrated his capabilities as a leader. His most celebrated moment came at the Battle of New Orleans in January 1815. Although the battle technically took place after the war had officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, news had not yet reached American forces. Jackson’s troops, composed of militia, freedmen, Native Americans, and even pirates, faced a professional British army. Against the odds, they achieved a decisive victory, inflicting heavy casualties while suffering minimal losses. This triumph turned Jackson into a national hero and a symbol of American resilience and patriotism. The victory solidified his image as a man of action who could defend the country against foreign threats.

Read by the author, Michael BondFans takes you on a journey into the world of superfans – in all of its strange, sometimes dark, and complicated forms.'A celebration of human idiosyncrasy and of our talent for building shared meaning and solidarity out of the strangest material' – TLSFascinating and thought-provoking, Fans is a story of communities, of what happens to us when we interact with people who share our passions. The human brain is wired to reach out, and while our groupish tendencies can bring much strife (religious intolerance, racism, war, etc.), they are also the source of some of our greatest satisfactions.Fandoms offer much of the pleasure of tribalism with little of the harm: a feeling of belonging and of shared culture, a sense of meaning and purpose, improved mental well-being, reassurance that our most outlandish convictions will be taken seriously, and the freedom to try to emulate (and dress like) our hero. But acclaimed science writer Michael Bond shows that despite these benefits, the world of fandoms is not without its dark underside, from the “copycat effect” fuelling mass shootings to the delusions that can accompany the parasocial relationships that fans feel they have with their heroes. In Fans, Michael Bond draws on the work of social psychologists and anthropologists to understand how people behave in groups and why such groups have such a profound effect on human culture.
