Sinossi

An English coastal town is the setting for this unfinished novel, the inspiration for the ITV series, by the author of Pride and Prejudice.Believed to be influenced by a town visited by Jane Austen herself, Sanditon is the story of Mr. Parker, an ambitious man intent on building a seaside resort town that will attract fashionable society; of Charlotte Heywood, a beautiful young woman who finds herself invited to Sanditon through an accident of fate; Mr. Parker’s extended family, including the handsome Sidney Parker and his three comical siblings; and the wealthy Lady Denham, who aims to marry off her impoverished nephew to an heiress from the West Indies. The final unfinished novel by Austen, Sanditon has inspired numerous adaptations and continuations, including the recent television series by prize-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies.

In the days when England and Spain struggled for the supremacy of the sea, a young lad sails with Sir Francis Drake, the daring sixteenth-century privateer, in this action-packed story based on true historical events. Drake’s superb navigational skill enabled him to outrun or outmaneuver his incessant pursuers. He escaped so often and so ingeniously that he became legendary and was assumed by some to have supernatural powers—even the Spanish tended to have admiration rather than hatred in their hearts. As Drake sails the Pacific on his great voyage of circumnavigation, the heroes pass through a variety of exciting and perilous adventures.

A House of Pomegranates is Oscar Wilde’s collection of lush, decadent fairy tales marked by rich symbolism, moral ambiguity, and aesthetic splendor. Unlike traditional children’s stories, these tales—such as “The Young King,” “The Birthday of the Infanta,” and “The Fisherman and His Soul”—explore themes of sacrifice, beauty, suffering, and the conflict between art and morality. Wilde weaves intricate, poetic prose to critique societal norms while celebrating imagination and emotional depth. Intended “for children of all ages,” the stories reveal his signature wit and philosophical complexity, offering haunting reflections on love, power, and redemption through a veil of enchantment.
