Sinopsis

From being caught having their first orgasm by their mum's best friend to being stalked and propositioned by a fundamentalist pastor; from soliciting spanking dates over the Internet to scoring a coveted invitation to a threesome with some elf fetishist neighbours, art rock darling (Xiu Xiu) Jamie Stewart's journey of fleshy self-discovery and queer awakening makes for an extraordinary, cringy, unputdownable epic in miniature, burning always with radical and often shocking self-criticism.
A one-of-a-kind exploration of abasement, depravity, joy, and embarrassment (and even joy in embarrassment), Anything That Moves is a series of comic, tragic X-rays of sex. It is funny, erotic, anti-erotic, honest, brave, icky, and hauntingly sad by turns. It demonstrates too how love and forgiveness can percolate around the edges of even the most traumatic relationships.
Stewart's band Xiu Xiu has been called 'self-flagellating', 'brutal', 'shocking' and 'perverse', but also 'genius', 'brilliant', 'unique', 'imaginative' and 'luminous'. Readers can expect nothing less from Anything That Moves.

    Read by Ellen Burstyn
The legendary Academy Award–winning actress reflects on her love affair with poetry and makes us believers.
In this beautiful book, Ellen Burstyn celebrates poetic magic and shares her favorite works. Now into her nineties, Ellen reveals she had an evangelical response to learning poetry even as a child and would memorize and recite the works of Edna St Millay to envelope herself in the poet’s deeper emotional landscape. As she continued her epic rise through film and theater—eventually winning an Oscar, a Tony, a BAFTA, and an Emmy—poetry gave voice to her experience as no other literary art form could. She never went anywhere without her curated “poetry pack.” No matter where she was in the world, while waiting on set, in rehearsal, on a train, or just relaxing, she found comfort in verse.
For nearly nine decades, poetry has led Ellen on a life of adventure, from a pilgrimage to Rumi’s birthplace to a friendship with Maya Angelou, during which the poet read her work in Ellen’s movie trailer, to selecting the poems to join her in love, in motherhood and in grief.
Featuring work by W.B. Yeats, Edna Vincent St. Millay, Rainer Maria Rilke, William Wordsworth, Edgar Allan Poe, William Ernest Henley, and others, Poetry Says It Better is a perfect daily companion for everyone looking to deepen and add meaning to their life experience. Throughout, Burstyn’s charming voice and luminous insights help readers meet her in this poetic celebration—soul to soul.

Walter Lionel George was born to British parents on the 20th March 1882 in Paris, France.

It was not until he was a young man of 20 that he learned English. In 1905 he moved to London to work in an office but soon found himself working as a journalist, and as a foreign correspondent, for various London newspapers.

By 1911, with the publication of his first novel ‘A Bed of Roses’, which portrayed the fall of a penniless young woman into prostitution, his efforts were rewarded, and he turned to literature as a full-time career.

His writings now sold well. He added short stories to his offerings as well as literary essays and several tracts that discussed left-wing themes. Some critics thought his subject matter to be difficult and poorly chosen. His political views gained him little credit amongst his peers although such luminaries as George Orwell praised both subject matter and style.

His personal life was also turbulent. His three marriages left him widowed twice. In 1908 he married Helen Porter who died in 1914. Helen Agnes Moorhead followed in 1916 but died only 4 years later. His last marriage was to Kathleen Geipel in 1921.

    W. L George died on 30th January 1926. He was 43.

Deception has been a fundamental part of human interaction throughout history, shaping societies, relationships, and institutions. Whether through subtle manipulation, outright lies, or carefully crafted misinformation, deception influences decisions, perceptions, and behaviors in both personal and collective spheres. While often viewed negatively, deception is not always malicious; in some cases, it serves strategic, protective, or even necessary functions. Understanding the role deception plays in society requires examining its various forms, motivations, and consequences.
One of the most common areas where deception is prevalent is in personal relationships. People deceive for different reasons, ranging from self-preservation to maintaining social harmony. White lies, for example, are often used to spare feelings or avoid unnecessary conflict, while more harmful deceptions, such as infidelity or emotional manipulation, can cause deep and lasting damage. The complexity of deception in relationships highlights its dual nature—sometimes beneficial, sometimes destructive.
Beyond personal interactions, deception extends into professional and institutional environments. In workplaces, deceptive practices can manifest as misleading job descriptions, false performance evaluations, or office politics designed to manipulate outcomes. Deception in business, such as false advertising or hidden fees, can mislead consumers, erode trust, and cause financial harm. Similarly, political deception—through propaganda, misinformation, and strategic framing of facts—shapes public opinion, influencing elections, policies, and societal norms.
