Sinopsis

"No Means Yes" explores the intriguing psychology behind why forbidden things often become more desirable. It delves into how our minds react when faced with restrictions, examining the counterintuitive relationship between prohibition and longing. Grounded in social science and psychology, the book highlights how the human psyche transforms limitations into attractions.

For example, reactance theory suggests we push back when our freedom is threatened, while the scarcity principle makes limited items seem more valuable. The book progresses by first laying a theoretical foundation, then analyzing real-world examples like alcohol prohibition and censorship, and finally exploring practical implications for policy making and self-control.

Through clinical experiments and case studies, the book demonstrates how prohibition can lead to unintended consequences, increasing demand for the very things being restricted. This comprehensive analysis, suitable for both academics and general readers, offers valuable insights for anyone interested in understanding human behavior and the psychological effects of prohibition.

In the 50 years following the First Crusade, the Latin states in the East were consolidated, but there were also growing tensions and new challenges. Against this backdrop, the fall of the County of Edessa in December 1144 at the hands of Zengi, the atabeg of Aleppo and Mosul, was a catastrophic event. Founded in 1098 by the future King Baldwin of Boulogne, Edessa was the first Crusader state, as well as the northernmost, weakest, and least populated. It was constantly exposed to Muslim attacks, and news of its fall reached Europe at the beginning of 1145, and the fall was the catalyst for the Second Crusade. Furthermore, the Crusader States were also concerned about their relationship with the Byzantine Empire, as relations with the Byzantines were often tense. Indeed, efforts to strengthen and then retake parts of the collapsing Crusader States would fuel subsequent Crusades, and the Fourth Crusade notoriously ended with the Crusaders sacking Constantinople instead of proceeding to Jerusalem.
Naturally, the Fifth Crusade was launched as a result of the Fourth Crusade’s failure to retake Jerusalem, and Pope Innocent III’s goal of reclaiming Jerusalem, which had been lost in 1187, remained unchanged.[1] At the same time, there was a truce between the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Ayyubid Sultan al-‘Adil I, which was due to expire in 1217. The timing seemed favorable for a new initiative, particularly given the strengthening of Christendom in other regions such as Spain, where the victory at Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 had secured much of the Iberian Peninsula against the Moors. The turning point for the proclamation of the Fifth Crusade was the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215, where Innocent III established a model for future Crusades, providing the enterprise with consistent legal, liturgical, and fiscal provisions.

Just a few decades ago, as recently as the Clinton years, we had a vibrant nation that inspired the rest of the world. But then a new religion called Secular Humanism took hold. It saw wrongs that needed to be righted, but went overboard as its revolutionary zeal carried it to excesses that plague our nation today. Clawback proposes a roadmap to get back to the nation we once had when common sense superseded idealistic and impractical zeal. The book presents over two hundred ideas to return us to a time when the pillars of family, friendships, and faith supported a healthy, happy, and powerful nation.

Could it be possible? This old saint in the forest hath not yet heard of it, that God is dead!

The ancient Persian prophet Zarathustra descends from a life of solitude on the mountain to announce to the world that God has been supplanted by the "Superman", the divine in human form. In one of the most radical and influential works of modern philosophy, Friedrich Nietzsche lays out the new standards of morality after the "death of God".

Frequently misrepresented (and hijacked to dangerous purpose by Nazi intellectuals), Thus Spake Zarathustra is a work of profound brilliance and poetic mastery which still provides meaning in today's complex and changing world.
