Summary

A book that narrates several facts that have never been made clear, which took place at the end of the Second World War between Genoa and the mountains of Bargagli. They include the illicit trafficking of meat on the black market, several murders which have never been never solved and the disappearance of a treasure during the final liberation of Genoa in 1945. All of this will enable you rediscover and relive those historical moments. As the Second World War, was coming to an end, several facts and mysteries never completely clarified took place between Genoa and the nearby mountains of Bargagli, including black market trafficking which was rife back then, plus some homicides and massacres because of the disappearance of a treasure that the Nazi-Fascists had with them and had abandoned on the Ligurian mountains.

What happened at the time intrigued much of Italy, so much so that several stories originated about what had happened around Genoa and Bargagli following murders and mysteries that continued even after the war.

Written as a mix of an essay and an historical novel, the result is a reconstruction of those events until the surrender in April 1945 of the Nazi-Fascist troops, and a treasure of many millions of lire being left behind, as well as a huge amount of paper money and molds from the mint ready to print others, which mysteriously disappeared in the woods around, during the days of surrender.

London, 1873. Madeleine Brewster's marriage to Dr Lucius Everley was meant to be the solution to her family's sullied reputation. After all, Lucius is a well-respected collector of natural curiosities. His 'Small Museum' of bones and specimens in jars is his pride and joy, although firmly kept under lock and key. His sister Grace's philanthropic work with fallen women is also highly laudable.

However, Maddie soon finds herself unwelcome in what is meant to be her new home. The more she learns about both Lucius and Grace, the more she suspects that unimaginable horrors lie behind their polished reputations.

Framed for a crime that would take her to the gallows and leave the Everleys free to continue their dark schemes, Maddie's only hope is her friend Caroline. She will do anything to prove Maddie's innocence before the trial reaches its fatal conclusion.

Fifteen years before Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published A Study in Scarlet, Anna Katharine Green began writing The Leavenworth Case, inspiring the creation of detectives like Sherlock, Poirot, and Wimsey, as well as almost every device and convention we now recognize as standard in detective mystery fiction.
When her father's client is found murdered, Anna takes up the call to prove innocent the young girl accused of the murder. The investigation inspires many of the events, characters, and descriptions that would later be published in her debut novel.
A love letter to mystery and writing itself, A Deed of Dreadful Note is an homage and reintroduction to an author who was the Agatha Christie of her time but a forgotten female today.
This book is a fictionalized account of how Anna Katharine Green’s first novel may have come to be…
A Deed of Dreadful Note is Book One in the Anna Katharine Green Mysteries, the only historical fiction series featuring the Mother of Detective Fiction.
