FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK: ANNAPURNA JAYANTI - "THE ANCIENT HINDU FESTIVALS THAT CELEBRATE FOOD" - Annapurna Jayanti is one of the ancient and unique Hindu festivals that celebrate food. This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Goddess Annapurna, the Goddess of nourishment. Goddess Annapurna is known to be an avatar of Goddess Parvati; BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST: NATIVITY BIBLICAL STORY - This is a summary of the Biblical account of the birth of Jesus. Almost 2,000 years ago, Mary gave birth to the son of God, Jesus Christ; The 17th CENTURY CHANDRAGIRI FORT - The 17th century Chandragiri Fort lies in Kasaragod District of Kerala, South India. This large squarish fort is 150 feet above sea level and occupies an area of about seven acres adjacent to Chandragiri river. The fort, now in ruins, offers panoramic views of the green countryside, the Chandragiri river and the estuary where the river meets the sea . Very few tourists venture here as the better known Bekal fort is close by. In ancient times, river Chandragiri bordered the two kingdoms of Kolathunadu and Tulunadu. Later, the region around the river came under the Vijayanagara Empire. When the empire fell, the Keladi Nayakas, who had carried out the administration, took control of the area. When Shivappa Nayak took over the reins, he renovated and built many forts including the Chandragiri fort. The fort is now managed by the Kerala Department of Archaeology.

Think today's anti-abortion ideas are rooted in religious prohibitions or arguments about where life begins? Wrong: today's anti-abortion movements is largely financed and planned by far-right extremists. Many of them are avowedly fascist and white supremacist, afraid of a "great replacement" of the world's white population by other races, who are working hard to reshape governments and policies across Europe, North America, and around the world. Much of this far-right organizing and funding network, however, has been overlooked by today's feminist and left movements.

As investigative journalist Sian Norris uncovers here, it is through attacking abortion rights that fascist ideas from the dark web, incel chat boards, and fringe organizations comes to enter mainstream debate—and to then shape governmental policy across Europe, from authoritarian regimes like Hungary's to liberal democracies like Britain. As Norris goes undercover at anti-abortion activist meetings, and pieces together the money trail linking American think tanks to far-right fascist groups, she maps out the pipeline by which fascism has become respectable across the Global North by taking away women's reproductive rights and autonomy.

The story of Australia's last bushranging gang - the murderous Kenniffs.

Easter Sunday, 1902, deep in the Carnarvon Ranges a police constable and station manager are slain then later incinerated, their remains stuffed into saddlebags. Accused of the ghoulish crime are two members of the bushranging Kenniff gang, fast gaining notoriety as Queensland's equivalent of the Kelly gang. Yet the murders are a bold escalation from the petty fraud, horse stealing and cattle duffing the gang is known for.
Starving and exhausted after three long months on the run, the brothers are finally captured, and so the wheels of justice start to turn.
The story of the Kenniffs has fascinated Mike Munro for decades - ever since he found out these last bushrangers were his family. If not for Mike's grandfather illegally changing his name in shame from Kenniff to Munro, this major figure in Australian television would be known to us as Mike Kenniff.
But who were Mike's relatives? What drove them to their life of crime? And were the brothers really responsible for such terrible murders?
In answering these questions Mike Munro takes us back to the dawn of Federation, when bush skills and horsemanship could help outlaws escape the police, when remote pastoralists were vulnerable targets for thieves and marauders, when race and class divides were entrenched - but resented - and when brutal, feckless outlaws faced the ultimate punishment.
This is a story that is both gripping and personal, and an insight into an Australia just coming of age.

Chicago is a world-class city, but it is also a city in crisis.

Crime is up, schools have repeatedly shut down due to conflict between City Hall and the powerful teachers' union, and COVID-19 only deepened the entrenched poverty, institutional racism, and endless tug of war between the city's haves and have nots.

For four years, the person at the center of this storm was Lori Lightfoot. A groundbreaking figure—the first Black, gay woman to be elected mayor of a major city and only the second female mayor of Chicago—she knew the city was at a critical turning point when she took office in 2019. But the once-in-a-lifetime challenges she ended up facing were beyond anything she or anyone else saw coming.

Chicago Tribune reporter Gregory Royal Pratt offers the first comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the tumultuous single term of Mayor Lightfoot and the chaos that roiled the city and City Hall as she fought to live up to her promises to change the city's culture of corruption and villainy, reform its long-troubled police department, and make Chicago the safest big city in America.
