His experiences have led him to his career success, his published works, and many other honors. 
  3: Oscar Wilde was a wild one. His statements were bold, his career was successful, and his tongue was sharp. Not only did he disturb the common narrative of the nuclear family, the Catholic church, and the idea of patriotism, but he also blew many people away with his defense of his principles, his criticism on the state, philosophies on life itself, and more. Being open about being a homosexual in a time when it was unaccepted and even illegal, his life ended in imprisonment and exile. Yet, despite his orientation and his controversial preferences, his prose and poetry did not suffer. His travels through Europe taught him many fascinating lessons, which he expressed in his acting, his writing, etc.

  A Rich Woman - From their pens...

  Katharine Tynan was born on 23rd January 1859 into a large family in Clondalkin, County Dublin. 
  The family business was cattle rearing and the farmhouse, set with the mountains for a backdrop, was a wonderful world for a young mind to learn and imagine. 
  She was educated at the convent school, St Catherine of Sienna, in Drogheda.  A stubborn streak inhibited her ability to learn as easily as the school wished. However she did learn on her own terms and soon began to take her ‘forbidden literature’, hidden in her clothing, to her loft in a stable hideaway.  
  Until she turned seventeen nothing appeared to point to a literary career.  But some verse printed in a Dublin newspaper changed everything. It led to a sonnet being printed in the Spectator.  Thereafter the Graphic published several others and even paid a half guinea for the privilege.   
  In 1884 Katharine dispatched herself to London and made an abiding friendship in Alice Meynell.  Alice was an established poet and helped, with her husband Wilfred, to publish many poets. The following year it was arranged for the publication of her first poetry volume, ‘Louise de la Vallière’.  
  She formed valuable friendships with the poets Gerard Manley Hopkins, William Butler Yeats and later Francis Ledwidge.  
  As she gathered friends and contacts into her life her literary output began to gather pace. Katharine had begun to write prose for the Speaker and for the Scots and National Observer.  
  In 1892 she married Henry Albert Hinkson, a fellow writer and a barrister.  They moved to England and had five children although two were to tragically die in infancy.   
  By now her output was prolific and ranged from poetry to novels to short stories.  It would later include a biography and further extend to editing and reviewing.   
  In 1912 the family returned to Claremorris, County Mayo, when her husband was appointed magistrate, a post he held until his early death in 1919.     
  Tynan is sometimes grouped amongst the War Poets of the First World War. Her experience was not direct but as a Mother with one son serving in France and another in Palestine, the emotions, fears and doubts are expressed in a beautiful and heart-felt way.  
  Involved in the Irish Literary Revival, Tynan expressed concern for feminist causes, the poor, and the effects of World War I in her work. She also meditated on her Catholic faith. 
  She is said to have written over 100 novels, 12 collections of short stories, plays and many volumes of enduring poetry as well as five volumes of autobiography. 
  Katharine Tynan Hinkson died at age 72 on 2nd April 1931 in London and is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery.

  On August 15, 2014, I received a phone call that would forever change my life. My husband of 19 years, Larry, and only child, nine-year-old Landon, had just died in a plane crash. This is my survival story. I say survival because at times I thought I would die of a broken heart. Although this story is the raw, vulnerable truth of grief, my survival is anchored in hope and faith that was shaken to its core. God met me right where I was and walked with me on the most difficult and burdensome journey of my life. My prayer is that my story helps pave the path for others who are on this difficult journey of surviving grief. 
  About the Author: 
  Charlotte was born and raised in north Texas until moving to Houston in 1995 after marrying Larry. In 2004 she gave birth to a son, Landon. She served as an educator her entire career. On August 15, 2014, Charlotte received a phone call that changed her life; her husband and son had just died in a plane crash. Charlotte says, "The years have been difficult and yet God has given me HOPE and peace that really does surpass all understanding."

  The story of the Vikings begins in the rugged, coastal lands of Scandinavia, where modern-day Norway, Sweden, and Denmark now stand. Norse mythology offered a complex system of deities, heroes, and mythical creatures that guided the moral and spiritual lives of the people. Central figures like Odin, the wise All-Father; Thor, the thunder god and protector; and Freyja, the goddess of love and fertility, were not just worshipped but also deeply integrated into the everyday lives of the Norse. These myths were passed down through oral storytelling, poetic sagas, and ritual practices, helping to create a shared identity among the diverse Scandinavian tribes. 
  Viking society was organized into a hierarchical structure that valued strength, honor, and loyalty. At the top were the jarls, or chieftains, who held power over clans and led warriors into battle or on raids. Below them were the karls, the free farmers, craftsmen, and traders who formed the backbone of Viking communities. At the bottom were the thralls, or slaves, who were usually captured during raids or born into servitude. Despite this stratification, Viking culture emphasized personal achievement and reputation, allowing individuals to rise in status through bravery, skill, and loyalty.
