Summary

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American writer, poet, literary critic and essayist, recognized as one of the greatest writers of horror literature together with Edgar Allan Poe and considered by many to be one of the precursors of Anglo-American science fiction. His works, a contamination between horror, soft science fiction, dark fantasy and low fantasy, have often been described, even by himself, with the term weird fiction (where weird stands for "strange"), being recognized among the main origins of the modern literary genre of the new weird.Written in 1931 and published in 1936, The Shadow Over Innsmouth is one of the most celebrated novellas by Howard Phillips Lovecraft. It is a fundamental pillar of the Cthulhu Mythos, blending elements of gothic horror, suspense, and the "cosmic dread" that defines Lovecraft’s literary legacy. Unlike many of his other stories which focus on scholarly research or distant stars, this tale brings the horror to a decaying, desolate town on the Massachusetts coast. The story follows an unnamed protagonist (later identified as Robert Olmstead in Lovecraft’s notes) who is on a celebratory tour of New England. While looking for a cheaper way to reach Arkham, he hears of the shunned seaport of Innsmouth. Despite warnings from locals in neighboring towns about the "Innsmouth look" and the town’s sinister reputation, he decides to visit.Once there, he finds a crumbling, foul-smelling ruins inhabited by people with strange physical deformities: bulging eyes, narrow heads, and scaly skin. Through a long, booze-fueled conversation with an old local named Zadok Allen, the protagonist learns the town’s dark secret: a pact made generations ago by Captain Obed Marsh with oceanic entities known as the Deep Ones. This pact traded human sacrifices for gold and plentiful fishing, eventually leading to the interbreeding of humans and monsters. The novella culminates in a terrifying night-time escape as the protagonist is hunted through the streets of the town, followed by a shocking revelation regarding his own ancestry.

1935. Kate Durrant is helping her mother move out of the little cottage her parents used to share, until her father’s heartbreaking death. Full of guilt that she couldn’t visit her dad in his last moments, Kate now has only memories for company. Memories and… something else. Since she was a small child, Kate has been able to see and feel the history of objects she touches. She’s always kept her gift secret, not knowing fully what it is, or how far it goes.

One evening, while visiting her father’s grave, Kate wanders into the shadowy woods behind the church. Following the mossy paths, she realises she’s lost her way just as she stumbles upon the wrought-iron gates of Hill House, home to the illustrious Mandeville family.

Welcomed in and offered a position on the staff as a housemaid, Kate discovers that all is not right within the walls of the splendid manor house. As her gift begins to unspool the history of the Mandeville’s home, she realises that an unspeakable tragedy is fated to befall the family heir. Kate also grows increasingly close to Bertie Morrison, the Estate Manager who has known Hill House his whole life. With the family oblivious to their desperate peril, Bertie helps Kate understand her deepening connection to the Mandevilles.

With Halloween approaching – when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest – a special visitor from the house’s past appears just as a shadow falls over Hill House.

The clock is ticking… will Kate's unique gift, combined with the strength of a new love and a timeless love from beyond the grave, be enough to save the Mandeville legacy?

A father and his estranged daughter reconnect to try to understand a decades-old trauma in this haunting novel, part ghost story, part lyrical exploration of family, aging, and how we remember the past.

At age eleven, Helen disappeared in the wilderness of Mount Rainier National Park while camping with her father, Benjamin. She was gone for almost a week before being discovered and returned to her family. It is now twenty-five years later, and after more than two decades of estrangement, Helen and Benjamin reconnect at his home in Portland, Oregon, to try to understand what happened during the days she was gone. Meanwhile, Benjamin meets an odd pair, a woman and boy who seem driven to help him learn more about Helen's disappearance and send him on a journey that will lead to a murder house, uncanny possession, and a bone-filled body of water known as Sad Clown Lake, a lake "that could only be found by getting lost, that was never in the same place twice."

Passersthrough is a haunted, starkly lyrical exploration of family, memory, and the border between life and death.

The White House claims credit for capturing the Black Widow and gives SHIELD an ultimatum, which has Aja questioning whose side the President is on.
Aja and her SHIELD colleagues successfully captured the Black Widow and her associates on their last mission. However, the White House has forbidden them, along with the CIA and FBI, from any further involvement in investigating, identifying, or prosecuting the multitude of high-speed rail service customers who exploited underage children.
The message was loud and clear. Find a new case or SHIELD will be decommissioned and its agents considered as traitors, charged with treason, and imprisoned. So what choice did they have? As SHIELD leadership works to identify their next case, Aja is not feeling as cooperative. But the moment she delves a little too deeply into why the White House is against their involvement, she mysteriously disappears.
Has Aja gone rogue and fled to protect her colleagues? Or has the White House caught wind of her actions and locked her away? Or, as the Black Widow predicted, has the President made her disappear in a more permanent manner?
Aja Minor: Dirty Politics is the eighth book in the Aja Minor psychic crime thrillers series. Fans of fierce female protagonists with unique powers who overcome adversity will find a home in this series.
A portion of the proceeds from this series are donated to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, established in 1984 to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization.
