Searching through the annals of North American history uncovers the diverse and astounding contributions by the Natives of the Americas who formed the world we know today.

In the Shadow of Our Ancestors explores the rich history of the indigenous peoples of North America and leaves us in awe of their stunning achievements and inventions:

The Great Law of Peace — The ideals, words and symbols of the Iroquois Confederacy inspired the governments of the New World to form democracies that recognized, in their constitutions, the rights of all people.

Potatoes — The lowly potato, a staple food of Natives for almost 15,000 years, was unknown outside the Americas until Europeans arrived; now, with almost 4000 varieties, it is the fourth most-consumed agricultural product in the world.

Sacagawea — The settlement of western North America was inspired and influenced by the results of the Lewis and Clark expedition in the early 1800s, with the journey’s success made possible because of a Native woman named Sacagawea, whose presence paved the way for the explorers to be seen as a peaceful party.

The MeToo movement has become one of the most significant social movements of the 21st century, capturing the global attention of millions and reshaping conversations around sexual harassment, assault, and gender inequality. What began as a simple hashtag in 2006, introduced by activist Tarana Burke, has evolved into a global call to action, leading to widespread awareness, conversations, and systemic changes regarding how society addresses sexual violence. The movement’s resonance stems from its powerful message: sexual harassment and assault are widespread issues that affect women and marginalized groups across all sectors of society, from entertainment to politics, from workplaces to homes.
The origins of MeToo lie in a need for a platform where survivors of sexual violence could share their experiences and find solidarity. Tarana Burke’s original vision was to create a supportive community for women of color who had experienced abuse and harassment. However, it was not until 2017, when the hashtag #MeToo went viral following allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, that the movement gained immense global traction. What followed was a wave of survivors coming forward, recounting their own stories of harassment, abuse, and trauma. The hashtag quickly became a symbol of empowerment, solidarity, and strength, with millions of people around the world joining in to share their experiences, stand in support of others, and demand change.

The digital age played a crucial role in amplifying the voices of survivors. Social media platforms, particularly Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, provided a space for individuals to share their stories without the barriers of traditional media. The power of the hashtag allowed voices from all walks of life, from ordinary individuals to high-profile celebrities, to unite in a way that was impossible before.

The Time Beneath the Concrete -...

In The Time beneath the Concrete, Nasser Abourahme argues that settler colonialism is always as much an attempt to conquer time as it is to conquer land. Taking as his primary object Palestinian refugee camps, created in the fallout of the eliminatory violence of Israel's founding, Abourahme shows how these camps become the primary place where settler colonial attempts to dominate space and time encounter Indigenous refusal. Seen from the camps, Israel becomes a settler colonial project defined by its inability to move past the past—a project stuck at its foundational moment of conquest. At the same time, the Palestinian insistence on return is a refusal to abide by the closure of the past into settler futurity. Palestinian struggle does not just happen in the open time of dispossession; it happens over this time. That struggle, Abourahme demonstrates, is a form of anticolonial refusal that draws its power not from any decisive finality, but precisely from irresolution and keeping time open.

The Three Sources and Three Component Parts of Marxism, by Lenin, is a concise article that examines the historical roots, essence, and content of Marxist teaching. Lenin wrote it on the 30th anniversary of the death of Karl Marx.
Soviet propaganda makers lifted a key quote from the article to use as a slogan for posters, inscriptions on monuments, or other propaganda purposes. The phrase was: "The might of Marx's teaching is in its truth."
The book, The State and Revolution: The Marxist Theory of the State and the Tasks of the Proletariat in the Revolution, was written while preparing for the socialist revolution. At this time the role of the state was of prime importance to the Bolsheviks. Lenin used the text to justify the need for a dictatorship of the proletariat. He also provided definitions for imperialism, socialism, and communism.
