~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
It had been three months since Mark and his wife had agreed to a congenial separation leaving their young and only daughter Linda to stay with her father. He had been an ambitious businessman as his daughter was growing up and now with her out of high school they finally had the chance to spend quality time with each other. In time they became such close companions they would jovially talk as if they were a couple. The time came when it was no longer a joke.
One particular night after an evening of dinner and dancing as they were having a nightcap in relaxation on the love seat in the family room, Linda was thinking, here we are on the love seat again. We always end up here. Is there something unconscious about the word 'love' in the name of this piece of furniture that draws us here. As Mark was sipping his scotch and soda she felt like starting a sensitive conversation, “Dad, I can still remember it just as if it was yesterday. It was graduation night you embraced me as soon a we walked through the door and as you were ready to kiss me on the cheek I turned my head to give you a hard French kiss. I don't know what came over me but I wouldn't let you go and let my tongue keep dancing in your mouth.”
“Yeah, it certainly was not an unwelcome gesture as I could see with one eye open your mother was smiling in approval. It was not long after that when we made preparations for our separation. I knew she had another lover and I suppose she felt it would lighten her guilt if I had you to keep me in good company.”
“Yes, Dad. It could have been the female version of the midlife crisis. Dad, we've kidded about it enough. We agree on what Mom was thinking.” They had been sitting a couple of feet apart as Linda was wearing one of her signature short skirts and a tie-in-the front blouse as she had always worn on a night out with her father. As she moved closer to him she adjusted her tiny skirt to reveal almost all of her shapely legs. Linda could see that her father's eyes were captured by his daughter's legs as they were crossed in seductive fashion. She took his hand in hers and place it on her bare thigh. “Just relax and feel free to stoke. I know you like what you see.”
As he followed her suggestions he said, “yes, I'm the so-called leg-man...my dear daughter, you've got 'em. The shape and the skin tone are marvelous.”
“So what do we do now?” she asked. “Shall we find out if that French kiss on graduation night was just the spirit of the moment or if it was a seed to be planted for father and daughter to grow to become lovers.” Her words left him speechless but with a smile. Linda then said, “I can see that I'm gonna have to be the leader here, but that's all right. Just think of your daughter as a dirty girl.” She stood up to remove her blouse, toss it aside and step out of her mini-skirt. Standing before her father in just her thong panties, she did a twirl to let him view all sides of the bare skin of her beautiful body. She then asked, “So how do ya like me now, Dad. Do you want to have your way with your daughter.? I'm ready if you are. I want you to pick me up and carry me to your former marriage bed.”
    The violin has formed an important aspect of Jewish culture for centuries, both as a popular instrument with classical Jewish musicians—Jascha Heifetz, Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman—and also a central factor of social life as part of the enduring Klezmer tradition. But during the Holocaust, the violin assumed extraordinary new roles within the Jewish community. For some musicians, the instrument was a liberator; for others, it was a savior that spared their lives. For many, the violin provided comfort in mankind's darkest hour, and, in at least one case, helped avenge murdered family members. Above all, the violins of the Holocaust represented strength and optimism for the future.
    In Violins of Hope, music historian James A. Grymes tells the amazing, horrifying, and inspiring story of the violins of the Holocaust, and of Amnon Weinstein, the renowned Israeli violinmaker who has devoted the past twenty years to restoring these instruments in tribute to those who were lost, including 400 members of his own family. Juxtaposing tales of individual violins with one man's harrowing struggle to reconcile his own family's history and the history of his people, it is a poignant, affecting, and ultimately uplifting look at the Holocaust and its enduring impact.
    Frank Hamel's Human Animals (published in 1915) is an infamous and classic treatise on the mythology and the evidence of hybrid humans. This was one of the first popular works on cryptozoology, and a primer for those interested in the many stories and accounts of lycanthropy and other strange evolutionary paradoxes. Covering the Were-wolf Trials of 1521, to bird-women, human serpents and witch familiars, Hamel's research into the mythological, hysterical, historical and the subjective with a scholar's pen. Many religious ceremonies and occult practices are studied, and he helps us to understand how these fantastical creatures have become a part of our culture, from books of fiction, to very serious study. Human Animals is a book that contains records and accounts of traditions dealing with the belief that certain men and women can transform themselves into animals. The causes of transformation are various: contact with a wer-animal, touching what he has touched, wearing an animal skin, rubbing the body with ointment, slipping on a girdle, buckling on a strap, and many other expedients, magical and otherwise, may bring about the metamorphosis.
    What is Critical Race Theory?
    It may be one of the most widely referenced issues of the day, but it's also one of the least understood. In its translation from the academic world to the general public, Critical Race Theory (CRT) has inaccurately become a catch-all term for anything related to race. But what does it actually mean, and how should Christians engage it?
    Ed Uszynski—whose PhD in American culture studies navigated readings in Marxism, Critical Theory, and Critical Race Theory—carefully unpacks what critical race theorists seek to accomplish and what Christians can learn from them. Uszynski generously explores CRT's roots, context, and central tenets, revealing how its insights are used and distorted but also how they might benefit the church. With responsible answers to legitimate concerns, Uszynski goes beyond the surface to provide a reliable path of just discernment and cultural engagement.
    The French Revolution is incredibly complex and involves a lot of moving parts, from the monarchy to the political clubs, from the intelligentsia to the starving peasantry protesting in the streets. This audiobook breaks it down for you in simple terms.
    It could be argued that the French Revolution is the perfect example of a social movement that began with the best of intentions yet somehow went wrong.
    The ideologues of the French Revolution were seeking to create a better, more just society. Their eloquent and profound words about equality, freedom of religion, and sound representation became a great source of inspiration for many. French Enlightenment thinkers even influenced the American Revolution, which occurred prior to France’s revolution.
    But while the American Revolution resulted in the founding of a nation based upon the principles of democracy and representative government, the French Revolution devolved into an utter nightmare, especially for those in the upper class.
    The French Revolution witnessed mob violence of the worse kind. Practically no one was safe. The king and queen were killed by the guillotine, and so was the Jacobin architect of the “Great Terror,” Maximilien Robespierre. Then, in perhaps one of the greatest ironies of all, the French Revolution ended with the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, who became a dictator. Many scholars refer to Napoleon as an “enlightened despot,” but he was a dictator all the same.
    The French Revolution does indeed present itself as an incredibly perplexing paradox. What happened? What went wrong? Here in this audiobook, we explore the possibilities.
