The police suspect a tragic accident, but Swatch notices the swatches have been deliberately mis-measured and the victim's project notes contain suspicious stitch counts that don't match standard patterns. Assisted by her advanced knitting students and the handsome textile standards inspector analyzing fabric consistency, Swatch uncovers a scheme involving pattern manipulation, yarn substitution fraud, and a plot to undermine knitting publications. From suspicious tension inconsistencies that reveal intentional mismeasurement to fiber content that doesn't match the yarn label, every swatch tells a story. But when Swatch discovers the victim was systematically altering published patterns to make them fail, she realizes the killer is protecting knitting accuracy more valuable than any published design.
