Summary

With only days left before her wedding, Marielle manages to evade her captors by careening down the river in an out-of-control boat. Simeon rescues his bride-to-be, though some very important objects are lost to the current: the rings! And not just their wedding rings, but also an exorbitantly expensive commission crafted for Duke Silvestre. Marielle feels compelled to apologize, so she, along with Simeon, Nigel, and Lutin, make their way to the duke’s seaside second home. However, when they arrive, the duke waves off the offer of monetary compensation—he would rather play a game with them. Just what kind of game does this knavish duke have in store?

People often chose a dog that resembles themselves, consciously or unconsciously. Even scientific experiments have proved it. For example, you rarely find a Hell's Angel with a bichon frisé, or a sweet little old lady with a bulldog. A gentle quiet academic wouldn't normally chose a boisterous border collie, nor would an energetic teenager chose a basset hound.

Our beloved dogs are rather like our choice of car or the clothes we wear. The science writer David Robson says, 'The canine mini-me reveals a narcissistic tendency in us all.'

In these humorous, colourful illustrations of doppelgänger dogs, artist John Holder has depicted a superb, visually entertaining collection of dogs and their owners in all their lookalike glory. A treat for dog owners everywhere.

Vaccines have been used to safely introduce people's bodies to diseases for centuries, and they save millions of lives each year. By giving people a weakened or dead version of a disease, a vaccine allows the body to develop antibodies which recognize and fight the disease later on.

Early vaccinations used dry scabs from smallpox to promote smallpox immunity. Doctors and scientists across nations took and improved the method, developing vaccines for health crises from whooping cough to polio to COVID-19. This graphic history features famous cases and current challenges, including the time frame for creating a new vaccine.

Whoz Your Daddy: The Misadventures of Mike and Spike is the story of two head-strong sperm cells who are each determined to fertilize an available ovary that they arrive at simultaneously. A debate ensues as to which one of them deserves to father the egg, each basing the opportunity on much of the very same archaic dogma that many humans use to this very day, regarding racial superiority, class, wealth and religion. Mike and Spike soon come to learn that, in the end, as far as all those things are concerned, just being a good and decent human being gives a person far more value.
