Readers will learn how the scientific method underpins evidence-based decision-making, fostering critical thinking skills applicable beyond scientific research. Did you know reproducibility in research is vital for confirming results and that peer review is essential for upholding scientific integrity? The Metamorphoses, also known as The Golden Ass, is an ancient Roman novel by Apuleius that follows the misadventures of Lucius, a curious young man who accidentally transforms himself into a donkey through forbidden magic. As he is passed from owner to owner, enduring hardship and witnessing both the absurdity and cruelty of human nature, Lucius seeks redemption and divine intervention. The story blends satire, folklore, and religious revelation, offering insight into Roman society, mystery religions, and the path to spiritual transformation. At its heart is the worship of the goddess Isis, whose grace ultimately restores Lucius to human form. Combining humor, allegory, and vivid storytelling, The Metamorphoses remains a masterpiece of classical literature and one of the earliest surviving novels in Western tradition.

Born in Matagorda, Texas, in 1855, Charlie Siringo went on his first cattle drive at age twelve and spent two decades living his boyhood dream as a cowboy. As the dangerous, lucrative "beeves" business boomed, Siringo drove longhorn steers north to the burgeoning Midwest Plains states' cattle and railroad towns, crossing paths with such legendary figures as Billy the Kid and Bat Masterson. In his early thirties he joined the Pinkerton Detective Agency's Denver office, using a variety of aliases to investigate violent labor disputes and infiltrate outlaw gangs.

Siringo's landmark 1885 autobiography, A Texas Cowboy, helped make the lowly cowboy a heroic symbol of the American West. His later memoir, A Cowboy Detective, influenced early hard-boiled crime novelists for whom the detective story was really the cowboy story in an urban setting. Sadly sued into debt by the Pinkertons, who were determined to prevent their sources and methods from being revealed, Siringo eventually sold his beloved New Mexico ranch and moved to Los Angeles, where he advised Hollywood filmmakers, and especially actor William S. Hart, on their early 1920s Westerns.

In old age, Charlie Siringo was called "Ulysses of the Wild West" for the long journey he took across the western frontier. Son of the Old West brings him and his legendary world vividly to life.

    Second Inaugural Address

Because of extreme cold weather, Chief Justice Warren Burger administered the official oath of office in the White House on January 20, 1985. A public administration of the oath of office and the inaugural address were delayed until January 21, 1985, in the Capitol Rotunda.
On the 50th inauguration since George Washington’s, Reagan marvels at America’s growth and inventions, including journeying to the moon and back. “There are no limits to growth and human progress when men and women are free to follow their dreams.” Our values of faith, family, work, and neighborhood were restored “when our economy was finally freed from government’s grip”.
America supports "individual liberty, self-government, and free enterprise throughout the world…” We deal best with great challenges when we come “together not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans united in a common cause.”
“We must never again abuse the trust of working men and women by sending their earnings on a futile chase after the spiraling demands of a bloated Federal Establishment.” “Freedom and incentives unleash the drive and entrepreneurial genius that are the core of human progress.”
“We must act now to protect future generations from government's desire to spend its citizens' money and tax them into servitude when the bills come due.” Though “our heritage is one of blood lines from every corner of the Earth, we are all Americans, pledged to carry on this last, best hope of man on Earth.”
Rather than relying on mutual assured destruction, we need “a security shield that will destroy nuclear missiles before they reach their target” and “render nuclear weapons obsolete.”
We are “one people under God, dedicated to the dream of freedom that He has placed in the human heart, called upon now to pass that dream on to a waiting and hopeful world.”
