Summary

A castaway. A forbidden island. And the grotesque results of science without conscience.

The Island of Doctor Moreau is H. G. Wells' terrifying vision of unchecked scientific experimentation. After a shipwreck, Edward Prendick finds himself on a remote island where the eccentric Dr. Moreau has created horrifying hybrid creatures—animals turned human through vivisection and cruel science.

What unfolds is a nightmarish tale of identity, morality, and the blurred boundaries between civilization and savagery. Both deeply philosophical and viscerally disturbing, this novel remains one of Wells' most provocative and haunting works.

With threats of solar flares larger than anything ever recorded looming, everyone on Earth is scrambling to prepare. No one knows how severe the consequences will be. With little to no warning, the massive flares hit, wiping out power grids, frying everything electrical or battery-operated, and burning out most living beings, unless you were lucky enough to be deep underground or inside something that could withstand the unimaginable temperatures.
In the end, the Earth has been left in total, absolute darkness.
Having rekindled their romance after their failed marriage, Gideon doesn’t want to be apart from D’hani, but she lives in another town. The last time he talked to her, he vowed to come looking for her if/when the big one hits. Because he works for Brodwyn Light and Power, he must stick around to help restore power when the flares pass.
Barely escaping death, he leaves to find her, to see if she also managed to survive, but life has been forever changed. Survival is now reduced to scavenging for whatever food and water he can find, and that means only the fittest or smartest will stay alive.
But some survivors have been reduced to savages.
Has humanity completely turned on itself? It seems there are still a few good ones left, though they are very few and far between. If Gideon can find D’hani, they’re going to search for a place where they can spend the rest of their days, however long that may be.
Although it may be the end of the world, their last wish is for them to be together.

This is an excellent time travelling story, with the usual logical paradoxes. This includes a trip to a museum of the future where they speak a version of English that is almost unrecognizable at times. It’s occasionally very funny and full of brilliant hard SF technical terms like the “whatdewmacallit” effect. A fascinating vision of the future earth.

Phoenix was becoming a pressure cooker nearing bursting open, as the sequestered group of savant scientists and soldiers in the glass-domed pods in Antarctica were buzzing with sexual tension.
Brad McCormick figured since the limbic system associated with sexual desire is linked to libido and the part of the brain responsible for higher-level functions, like planning and thinking, he had a problem he couldn’t solve without his leadership team. To put it more explicitly, the men were extremely sexually eager.
Unbeknownst to the threat of external forces, the new Phoenician code of conduct, their scientific discoveries of new technologies and DNA manipulations hold the key to human survival—a blueprint for a new world, where the old divisions and conflicts become nothing more than relics of the past.
This is a low-action, high-science-fiction fantasy story with bouts of silliness, steamy M/M romances, a wedding, and a "Quik-Fix Hall.”
Phoenix Code is a prequel to the New Beginnings M/M series by Kashel Char. It is a re-edit of the original published work titled Men of Phoenix, written by Stefan Pride. Stefan invited Kashel to co-author and update it with fresh thoughts, preparing it for an audiobook recording. It was re-titled Phoenix Code Copyright 2022 by Kashel Char and Stefan Pride. Warning: This story has explicit and graphic depictions unsuitable for young and sensitive listeners or anyone offended by gay sex.
