My Secret Life is an anonymously penned memoir written during a period from the 1840s to the 1880s by a wealthy and sex obsessed English gentleman who refers to himself simply as ‘Walter’. Part confessional, part investigative erotic journalism, it meticulously documents every detail of the author’s prolific sexual encounters, offering us in the process an eye and thigh opening account of life behind closed doors in the Victorian age.

Women, in both mind and body, were the all consuming object of Walter’s interest. From early youth through to old age his quest for erotic discovery and adventure with them was never diminished.

Unlike contemporary 19th century erotic texts, such as The Pearl, whose sole object was to titillate, Walter’s interest in his subjects did not end with the extinguishing of the carnal flame. His hunger to understand the circumstances and minds of the women he encountered is never upstaged by the sex. Their potted life histories, their most intimate desires and acts were shared with him and in turn meticulously recorded by him, written down verbatim while still fresh in his mind.

The resulting poignant record of a lost era and the intimate moments of the women who inhabited it offer us a remarkable insight into the 19th century that cannot be gleaned from any other source.

The complete unabridged text is being released as a fully scored audiofilm (an audio book with accompanying music soundtrack) by film composer Dominic Crawford Collins.

Carrie Jade is a chilling true-crime account of Samantha Cookes, a master manipulator who spent more than a decade reinventing herself across the UK and Ireland with an arsenal of false identities. From au pair and nanny to therapist, teacher, psychologist, even terminally ill author and influencer, she slipped into families’ homes and lives with devastating ease.

Behind the charm lay a trail of fraud, deception and fear. A surrogacy scam. Vulnerable families exploited. Communities left shattered. And at the heart of the story, a baby who died in mysterious circumstances - a death that would haunt Samantha as she fled across borders and changed identities to evade scrutiny. Each reinvention brought new victims, until her most audacious lie, a fabricated terminal illness broadcast on radio and TikTok, triggered an online reckoning that finally joined the dots.

Drawing on new and revelatory material, including firsthand testimony from those deceived, Carrie Jade exposes how systemic failures in childcare, professional regulation and social support allowed a con artist to thrive. It is a visceral portrait of psychological manipulation with an unsettling question at its core: how well do we really know the people we trust with our children?

Three complaisant kids, two stormy parents, one anxious French poodle, too many U-haul trailers, and the potholed road of the early 1960s. Searching for Alpha Centauri is American Public Television artist Gary Spetz's boyhood memoir of living a nomadic life with an impetuous mother, a discontent casino-security-guard step-father, an anxious French poodle, and two complaisant siblings -- during the early 1960s. The artist/author paints his moving landscape with words. He adeptly colors these words with both humor and tenderness. Mixed into this tale is the author's deference of history. He effectively interweaves his backdrop of an impending nuclear war, an exciting new space race, an escalating conflict in Vietnam, a rising civil rights movement, the invasion of Beatlemania, and the shocking assassination of a President. Searching for Alpha Centauri is a story of innocence, edification, intrigue, adventure, and endurance. As its boy-protagonist explains, it was "a time of flying bears, where everyone, it seemed, danced into the mystic."

The rise and fall of one of America's first Black sports celebrities

Isaac Murphy, born enslaved in 1861, still reigns as one of the greatest jockeys in American history. Black jockeys like Murphy were at the top of the most popular sport in America at the end of the nineteenth century. They were internationally famous, the first African American superstar athletes—and with wins in three Kentucky Derbies and countless other prestigious races, Murphy was the greatest of them all.

At the same time, he lived through the seismic events of Emancipation and Reconstruction and formative conflicts over freedom and equality in the United States. And inevitably he was drawn into those conflicts, with devastating consequences.

Katherine C. Mooney uncovers the history of Murphy's troubled life, his death in 1896 at age thirty-five, and his afterlife. In recounting Murphy's personal story, she also tells two of the great stories of change in nineteenth-century America: the debates over what a multiracial democracy might look like and the battles over who was to hold power in an economy that increasingly resembled the corporate, wealth-polarized world we know today.

Henry Louis Gehrig (June 19, 1903 to June 2, 1941), born in New York City, was an American baseball player who played 17 seasons for the New York Yankees (1923–1939). Gehrig was renowned for his prowess as a hitter and for his durability, which earned him the nickname the "Iron Horse," and he is regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Gehrig was an All-Star seven consecutive times, a Triple Crown winner once, an American League Most Valuable Player twice and a member of six World Series championship teams. He had a career .340 batting average, hit 493 home runs, and had 1,995 RBIs. He is also one of 19 players to hit four home runs in a single game. In 1939, Gehrig was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and was the first MLB player to have his uniform number retired by a team, when his number 4 was retired by the Yankees. The following recording is a radio interview from August 1939 after Gehrig had retired from baseball due to his illness, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), an incurable neuromuscular illness which, since then, is often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease."
