Myths of Greece and Rome by H. A. Guerber is a captivating retelling of the legendary stories that have shaped Western literature, art, and culture for centuries. First published in the late 19th century, this timeless collection brings to life the gods, heroes, and epic adventures of classical mythology, offering readers a compelling glimpse into the beliefs and storytelling traditions of the ancient world.     From the thunderous power of Zeus and the cunning of Hermes to the tragic love of Orpheus and Eurydice and the heroic feats of Hercules, these myths are filled with drama, passion, and timeless wisdom. Readers will journey through the fall of Troy, sail with Jason and the Argonauts, and follow Aeneas as he forges the foundations of Rome. Guerber’s engaging storytelling not only brings these tales to life but also highlights their deeper meanings, revealing their enduring influence on literature, philosophy, and the arts.     More than just a collection of ancient stories, Myths of Greece and Rome explores the cultural significance and moral lessons behind each legend. Guerber provides historical context and insight into how these myths shaped classical civilization and continue to inspire modern narratives. Through her vivid prose, she connects the reader to a world where gods interfere in human affairs, fate is inescapable, and heroism is both a blessing and a burden.     This Classicus edition presents Guerber’s work to a new generation of readers, preserving the beauty and depth of these classical myths. Those who had decoded and seen the Japanese communications in early December 1941 would not be surprised when they heard about an attack on December 7, 1941. They would, however, be astonished when they heard where that attack took place. Posted on the other side of the world, it was early on the morning of December 8 in the Philippines when American general Douglas MacArthur received news of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor hours earlier. With that, it could only be a matter of time before the Japanese attacked the Philippines.
While the Battle of the Coral Sea is not as well known as other battles across the Pacific, it set a precedent by pitting enemy aircraft carriers against each other, a battle in which the rival navies themselves never sighted each other or fired a gun at each other. Instead, the fighting was done with the carriers’ aircraft, something that would become more common over time and would result in decisive actions at places like Midway just months later. Furthermore, while it was in a sense a tactical victory for the Japanese, it would end up helping blunt their aggressive push east in the Pacific, making it a crucial strategic victory for the Allies.
By the time the Battle of Midway was over, the defeat was so devastating that it was actually kept secret from all but the highest echelons of the Japanese government. Along with the loss of hundreds of aircraft and over 3,000 men killed, the four Japanese aircraft carriers lost, when compared to America’s one lost carrier, was critical considering America’s huge shipbuilding superiority. However, the Battle of Midway could also have easily turned out differently. Japan began the battle with more carriers, more and better aircraft, and more experienced crews than the Americans, and if the battle of the Coral Sea was any indication, the two sides had irrefutable proof of the dominance of the aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

This program includes an epilogue and acknowledgements read by the author“A fascinating tale of poisons and poisonous deeds which both educates and entertains.” --Kathy ReichsAs any reader or listener of murder mysteries can tell you, poison is one of the most enduring—and popular—weapons of choice for a scheming murderer. It can be slipped into a drink, smeared onto the tip of an arrow or the handle of a door, even filtered through the air we breathe. But how exactly do these poisons work to break our bodies down, and what can we learn from the damage they inflict? In a fascinating blend of popular science, medical history, and true crime, Dr. Neil Bradbury explores this most morbidly captivating method of murder from a cellular level. Alongside real-life accounts of murderers and their crimes—some notorious, some forgotten, some still unsolved—are the equally compelling stories of the poisons involved: eleven molecules of death that work their way through the human body and, paradoxically, illuminate the way in which our bodies function.Drawn from historical records and current news headlines, A Taste for Poison weaves together the tales of spurned lovers, shady scientists, medical professionals and political assassins to show how the precise systems of the body can be impaired to lethal effect through the use of poison. From the deadly origins of the gin & tonic cocktail to the arsenic-laced wallpaper in Napoleon’s bedroom, A Taste for Poison leads listeners on a fascinating tour of the intricate, complex systems that keep us alive—or don’t.A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Press

Punjab could be mainly in Pakistan at this moment, but the Punjabi people live and have resided in India also. As disputes emerged between the Indians and Pakistani, the border has moved from one area to another. Still, the Punjabi society is probably a vital aspect of India's history.
Punjab is a geopolitical, cultural, and historic area in South Asia, situated in the northern area of the Indian subcontinent and incorporating parts of Pakistan and India. The area's limitations are ill-defined and based upon historic accounts.
With time, the geographical definition of the name "Punjab" has moved. It described a really minimal terrain between the Indus and the Sutlej rivers at the time of the Mughal Empire's 16th century reign.
So, if this is your cup of tea, I invite you to get started with this book. You will learn about this interesting people, who value their religion and their traditions more than anything, and who stick to old habits despite of technological advances.

The Knotsman does not exist, you will not find him in history books or collections of 'bygone' skills. But Math Jones has created him, and his fellows, in a time very like the English Civil War. There he is, going from house to house, village to village, battlefield to gallows, unravelling knots and problems, physical, emotional and psychological; a new kind of cunning man, not always welcome, not always quite as clever as his fingers and picks would have him believe.
