Sinopse

The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is bigger than the island of Manhattan. More than seventy million people pass through DFW each year. In Newcomers, five new people arrive at the airport. But they are not starting a vacation or traveling. They come to work. These young people emigrated from Bangladesh, China, Ghana, and Mexico. Some drive buses. Others sell coffee, books, and clothes. And some rub your aching neck and feet in day spas. Travelers pass by them without a second look. Yet their lives are challenging and complex. These employees become friends as they struggle to learn a new culture and understand a very confusing world of work.

Nineteen year old William Martin is on death row in the Ohio State Penitentiary for a double homicide. Musically talented, but socially inept, he remains supported by two strong women, his mother, Susan, and his childhood nanny, Sally Miller, who are convinced there has been a miscarriage of justice. Their trust in William leads to complications which threaten not only his chance of an appeal but also their own freedom. This is a story of the strong bond between mother and son, whose relationship contrasts starkly with that of William and his proud and arrogant father. Jealous of his son's musical talent, he is equally jealous of his wife's success. It is against this background that William's world crumbles when he is charged and convicted of murder.

Soon, Kat discovers her predecessor vanished without a trace, and the residents are harboring secrets they won’t easily share. Step into the spirited world of Victorian England in Bringing Down the Duke, where a determined scholar with a passion for women’s rights crosses paths with a powerful aristocrat bound by tradition. Amid grand estates, intellectual duels, and the electric push for social reform, these two unlikely allies discover that alliances forged in the heat of debate can spark far more than political momentum. Their comedic banter evolves into a profound connection—one that challenges the boundaries of class and the constraints of convention.
Perfect for listeners who crave both historical romance and motivational insights, this audiobook demonstrates how ambition, empathy, and a shared sense of purpose can break down even the highest walls of privilege. As the characters champion social change and confront their own personal barriers, Bringing Down the Duke reminds us that genuine synergy arises when open dialogue, strategic thinking, and the courage to defy norms converge—proving that hearts, like empires, can be reshaped by the power of collaboration.
