The Last Honest Man is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist's examination of Senator Frank Church, the man at the center of numerous investigations into the abuses of power within the American government. Church was an unlikely hero who led congressional opposition to the Vietnam War and became a radical critic of American imperialism. He exposed dark truths such as assassination plots by the CIA, links between the Kennedy dynasty and the mafia, and surveillance of civil rights activists by the NSA and FBI.

How did we get here and where are we going? How do we heal our wounds, grow and mature as human beings? Good questions! We weren’t born with a road map, so we have to figure this out ourselves—if we are up to the challenge. It does help to have a friend who is a few steps ahead on the path to guide us when needed. Chris writes about his own astonishing journey of psychic healing and spiritual exploration with the aid of mind-changing medicines. Although this is the story of his personal path, it is a useful example of the universal human journey; entertaining, encouraging and enlightening.

"I bought an El Al ticket. Destination Ben Gourion airport. Tel Aviv. Israel. 60 years ago, my mother was born a few dozen kilometers away. In Haifa, Palestine.
So begins the story of the "return" of Ziyad Clot, grandson of Palestinian exiles. In Ramallah, he accepted a position as legal advisor to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and became a negotiator, taking part in the talks that were to lead to the creation of the Palestinian state by the end of 2008. But he soon came to terms with the obvious: "The peace process is a spectacle, a farce, played out at the expense of Palestinian reconciliation, at the cost of bloodshed in Gaza. And despite myself, I'm becoming one of the actors in this drama.”
The author plunges us into the heart of the peace process, revealing the pretenses, behind-the-scenes maneuvers of the parties and the internal and international rivalries that help fuel the fantasy of a two-state solution. This edifying account, steeped in personal history, shows how and why negotiations to create a Palestinian state came to nothing. For the former negotiator, a peaceful solution to the conflict can only be found through a single state in which Palestinians and Israelis will have to live together. This hybrid country, "Israeltine," is already here.

Featuring a new introduction by Ken Liu, this revised edition of Ursula K. Le Guin’s first full-length collection of essays covers her background as a writer and educator, her thoughts on writing, and her commentary on literary science fiction and fantasy and their future.

“We like to think we live in daylight, but half the world is always dark; and fantasy, like poetry, speaks the language of the night.”—URSULA K. Le GUIN

Le Guin’s sharp and witty voice is on full display in this collection of twenty-four essays, revised by the author a decade after its initial publication in 1979. The collection covers a wide range of topics and Le Guin’s origins as a writer, her advocacy for science fiction and fantasy as mediums for true literary exploration, the writing of her own major works such as A Wizard of Earthsea and The Left Hand of Darkness, and her role as a public intellectual and educator. The book and each thematic section are brilliantly introduced and contextualized by Susan Wood, a professor at the University of British Columbia and a literary editor and feminist activist during the 1960s and ’70s.

A fascinating, intimate look into the exceptional mind of Le Guin, whose insights remain as relevant and resonant today as when they were first published.
