Sinopsis

In "The Pirate's Gold," Gordon Stables weaves an exhilarating tale of adventure set against the backdrop of the high seas during the golden age of piracy. With a narrative that is rich in vivid imagery and spirited dialogue, Stables captures the fervor of maritime escapades, while delving into the intricacies of human motivations and moral ambiguities. The novel stands out for its careful character development and thematic exploration of loyalty, betrayal, and the quest for treasure, all told in a style that combines elements of both Victorian storytelling and a playful wit typical of children's literature. Gordon Stables, a Scottish author and avid sailor, was profoundly inspired by his love for the sea and his extensive travels. His experiences living among various cultures and navigating diverse waters fortified his storytelling prowess, allowing him to bring authenticity and depth to the nautical adventures he describes in this work. Stables, who wrote prolifically during the late 19th century, often infused his own passions into his literature, making his books both entertaining and informative for young readers eager to explore the mysteries of the ocean. For readers seeking a richly layered adventure that transcends mere entertainment, "The Pirate's Gold" is highly recommended. This novel offers not only a thrilling escapade through treacherous waters but also essential lessons about courage and the human spirit. Stables' engaging narrative style ensures that both young readers and adults will find themselves captivated by the allure of treasure hunting and the complex world of pirates.

Contradictions (both real and apparent), oppositions, enigmas, provocations, challenges——this is the kind of material that makes a life, and is the kind of material that, in fiction, one is never quite sure of. With Pretty Ugly, Kirsty Gunn reminds us again that she is a master of just such stuff, presenting ambiguity and complication as the essence of the storyteller's endeavour.

The sheer force of life that Gunn is able to load these stories up with is both testament to her unrivalled skill and an exercise in what she describes as 'reading and writing ugly', in order to pursue the deeper truths that lie at the heart of both the human imagination and human rationality.

So here we have all the strange and seemingly impossible dualities that make up real life——and pretty ugly it can be, as well as beautiful, hopeful, bleak, difficult, exhilarating. But never, ever dull.

Some scents linger far beyond the body… straight into the soul.
In the narrow bylanes of an old town, the air carries an unusual fragrance—sweet, musky, ancient. It comes from a small, forgotten shop, where an old man sells attar that no one remembers buying... but everyone who smells it, changes.
When Prashant, a mild-mannered government employee, follows the strange scent one evening, he disappears without a trace—only to return five days later, strangely quiet, eyes hollow, and mind blank. What begins as a curious case of memory loss turns into a slow spiral into terror as his family notices the subtle shifts: the way mirrors fog around him, how dogs growl in his presence, and how the scent of attar never leaves his skin.
As dreams bleed into waking life and whispers echo in locked rooms, one question hangs in the air like perfume:
What did Prashant inhale that night… and what part of him never came back?
A haunting blend of psychological dread and supernatural mystery, Smell of Souls will make you question what's real, what's remembered, and what's left behind.

In My Own True Ghost Story, Rudyard Kipling delivers a hauntingly humorous tale set in the shadowy outposts of British India—where the rational mind meets the inexplicable. When a weary English traveler spends the night in a decrepit dâk-bungalow, the howling wind, flickering candles, and creaking walls seem to come alive. Then comes the unmistakable sound of a billiard game—played in a room far too small to hold a table, and by players who no longer exist.
Kipling’s mastery of tone—balancing wit, irony, and eerie suspense—makes this one of his most memorable supernatural stories. A blend of colonial realism and gothic unease, My Own True Ghost Story reminds us that even the most skeptical traveler may find himself haunted when logic and legend collide.
Narrated with crisp wit and quiet tension by Michael Lyons, this performance captures both the humor and horror of Kipling’s classic ghost tale.

Richard Bernard Heldmann was born on 12th October 1857, in St Johns Wood, North London.
By his early 20’s Heldmann began publishing fiction for the myriad magazine publications that had sprung up and were eager for good well-written content.
In October 1882, Heldmann was promoted to co-editor of Union Jack, a popular magazine, but his association with the publication ended suddenly in June 1883. It appears Heldman was prone to issuing forged cheques to finance his lifestyle. In April 1884 He was sentenced to 18 months hard labour.
In order to be well away from the scandal and damage this had caused to his reputation Heldmann adopted a pseudonym on his release from jail. Shortly thereafter the name ‘Richard Marsh’ began to appear in the literary periodicals. The use of his mother’s maiden name as part of it seems both a release and a lifeline.
A stroke of very good fortune arrived with his novel The Beetle published in 1897. This would turn out to be his greatest commercial success and added some much-needed gravitas to his literary reputation.
Marsh was a prolific writer and wrote almost 80 volumes of fiction as well as many short stories, across many genres from horror and crime to romance and humour.
