This book captures a journey marked by profound loss, boundless grace, surrender, and ultimate joy, all orchestrated by the guiding hand of God. Presented through a sincere compilation of narratives, stories, and poetry, Lanford invites readers into an inspiring exploration of his personal odyssey through the depths of grief following the passing of his wife of 42 years. Within these confessional, redemptive, and restorative writings lies a narrative of forgiveness, renewal, and the extravagant love of God.
Rather than a conventional guide on coping with grief, Lanford emphasizes to readers that this book aims to sensitize readers to God's relentless desire to love and pursue them through the darkest moments. Even those who have not experienced the loss of a spouse or a beloved can cultivate empathy and compassion for those navigating such spaces.
Lanford clarifies, "This isn't just a self-help manual; it's an exploration designed to stir the soul, encouraging contemplation of God and fostering an awareness that, in times of distress, God does not abandon us. His intention is to bring comfort and meet us precisely where we need Him the most."
When asked about the key takeaway for readers, Lanford expresses, "God epitomizes absolute love. He actively pursues us in our deepest grief and heartache, offering measured and sometimes overflowing mercy. He equips us with strength for each day and every ciucumstance."

The best new writing, photography, art, and reportage from and about Rome—in the series that’s “like a literary vacation” (Publishers Weekly).

If you believe recent chatter about Rome—in the media and by its residents—the city is on the verge of collapse. Each year, it slips further down the ranking of the world’s most livable cities. To the problems faced by all large capitals—hit-and-run tourism, traffic, the divide between elegant, Airbnb-dominated city centers and run-down suburbs—in recent years Rome seems to have added a list of calamities of its own: a string of failing administrations, widespread corruption, the resurgence of fascist movements, rampant crime. A seemingly hopeless situation, perfectly symbolized by the fact that Rome currently leads the world in the number of self-combusting public buses.

One might expect mass migration in the face of problems like these—yet the vast majority of Romans don’t think for a second of “betraying” their hometown, and the many newcomers who’ve populated it in recent decades resemble the natives in the profound love that binds them to the city.

The largest metropolis in Europe is a place of contradictions and opposites. We think of it as ancient, but it is profoundly modern—it was founded almost three millennia ago, but 92 per cent of its buildings have been built after 1945. To understand Rome and fix its problems, we should start considering it a normal city, not unlike Chicago or Manchester . . . just incomparably more beautiful. This volume is filled with portraits of Rome and thoughts not just on its famous past but its present and future, including:

Rome doesn’t judge you by Nicola Lagioia · The soul of the city by Matteo Nucci · 39 memos for a book about Rome by Francesco Piccolo · Plus: a guide to the sounds of Rome by Letizia Muratori; the feigned unrest and real malaise of the suburbs; the influence of the Vatican; the excessive power of real estate speculators and the rule of gangs; disillusioned trappers; football fans of every age, and much more . . .

“Insightful and engaging! … this book hits the mark with powerful techniques for living a more fulfilled life.”Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, Thinkers50 #1 Executive Coach, and New York Times bestselling author of The Earned Life, and What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

What if you could live your life in flow?

Being in flow is when you are ‘in the zone’, ‘on your game’, or even ‘on fire’. This is both a mental state and a physical one. You have a feeling of complete focus, full involvement and deep enjoyment in whatever you are doing. You feel the activity takes no energy from you – indeed you feel that it is giving you energy. You barely notice the passage of time. You feel calm but almost ecstatic. Most of us have glimpsed being in this state. But what if you could be in your zone not just for a moment of flow, nor merely for a day, but always and forever?Max Landsberg, best-selling author whose previous titles have sold more than a million copies, reveals how we can live in a state of flow all the time. He shows how to achieve this, based on the enduring wisdom of Daoist principles and practice.

“One of the best books I have read on personal development and growth … I am sending copies to my friends and CEO contacts.”André Andonian, Board Chair, CEO coach, and former Managing Partner of McKinsey in Korea and Japan

    The Involuntary American - A...

In the winter of 1650–51, 150 ragged Scottish prisoners of war arrived at Massachusetts Bay Colony, where they were sold as indentured laborers for twenty to thirty pounds each. Among them was Thomas Doughty, a common foot soldier who had survived the Battle of Dunbar. Doughty was among some 420 Scottish soldiers who were captured during the War of the Three Kingdoms, transported to America, and sold between 1650 and 1651. Their experiences offer a fresh perspective on seventeenth-century life.

The Involuntary American: A Scottish Prisoner's Journey to the New World describes Doughty's life as a soldier, prisoner of war, exile, servant, lumberman, miller, and ultimately free landowner. It follows him and his peers through critical events: the apex of the Little Ice Age, the War of the Three Kingdoms, the colonization of New England, the burgeoning transatlantic trade in servants and slaves, King Philip's and King William's wars, and the Salem witch crisis.

The Involuntary American demonstrates how even individuals of humble circumstances were swept into the maelstrom of the First Global Age. It expands our understanding of immigration to the colonies, colonial servitude, the linkages and tensions between Europe, Massachusetts Bay, and America's northeastern frontier, and of New England society in the early colonial period.
