Summary

In "History of the Phoenician Civilization," George Rawlinson meticulously unravels the intricate tapestry of Phoenician society, exploring its significant contributions to trade, culture, and the evolution of written language in the ancient Mediterranean world. Employing a narrative style that beautifully marries scholarly rigor with accessible prose, Rawlinson situates the Phoenicians within the broader context of ancient history, deftly analyzing their interactions with neighboring civilizations such as the Egyptians and Greeks. The work is distinguished by its comprehensive use of archaeological evidence alongside classical texts, thereby enriching our understanding of a culture often overshadowed by its more dominant contemporaries. George Rawlinson, a prominent historian and philologist of the 19th century, was deeply influenced by his extensive study of ancient Near Eastern scripts and historical contexts. His familiarity with classical authors and dedication to accuracy promote a nuanced portrayal of the Phoenicians, shedding light on their complexities as seafarers, traders, and innovators. Rawlinson's passion for history is evident in his painstaking research, which aims not only to document the Phoenicians but to foster an appreciation for their enduring legacy. Readers interested in ancient civilizations and the foundations of Western culture will find Rawlinson's work an invaluable resource. With its balanced blend of historical detail and engaging narrative, "History of the Phoenician Civilization" invites scholars and casual readers alike to explore the richness of a civilization that laid the groundwork for contemporary trade and commerce. What happens after death? Some say that we continue to live in a different form; while others say that death is the complete extinction of our existence. Since the beginning of human thought, we have asked ourselves three simple questions: Who am I? Where have I come from? Where am I going?
This book, based on the teachings of Yoga and Vedanta, seeks to answer these questions about death and life after death. The answer to death is Knowledge of the Self--realization of our true identity, our divine existence, our spiritual nature--and to not be afraid of the unknown.
Chapter 1: Is Death the End? by Swami Nikhilananda
Chapter 2: Fear of Death by Swami Adiswarananda
Chapter 3: Sufferings of Life by Swami Adiswarananda
"Life on earth is meant for our soul to journey on towards its freedom. The soul’s three basic desires are immortality, unrestricted awareness, and unbounded joy. These are attained only when the soul discovers its true identity, the all-embracing Self. In search of its identity, the soul changes bodies and places, and finally, knowing the limitations of all pleasures and realizing that everything finite is shadowed by death, it practices detachment and desirelessness and realizes its immortal Self. Immortality is the return of the prodigal son to his all-loving father. It is the return of the reflection of the sun to the sun. It is the river of individual consciousness meeting the infinite ocean of Pure Consciousness. It is the realization that we are like leaves of a tree and that our true identity is the tree. Immortality is our separative existence joining the infinite existence of absolute freedom... The journey to this final freedom is a solitary one; alone a person is born, alone he suffers, and alone he dies. By realizing his true Self, he becomes united with all beings and things and attains to final freedom. Only then comes the end of all sorrow, all fear, all anxiety."

Fox News war correspondent Trey Yingst shares his gripping, firsthand account of the events of October 7, 2023, and the ensuing war, offering riveting insight and fresh facts that clarify the scope and magnitude of this latest and most dramatic outbreak in one of the bloodiest, most nuanced, and longest-standing conflicts in modern history.
On the morning of October 7, 2023, the militant group known as Hamas launched a vicious attack on Israel in the most recent stage of the deeply complicated and decades-long Israel-Palestine conflict. The assault, which took place on Shabbat—the day of rest for the Jewish people—instantly became known among Israelis and the world as “Black Saturday.”
On October 7, Fox News Correspondent Trey Yingst was on the ground along the Gaza border and witnessed firsthand the devastation, shock, and deep sorrow that whirled through Israel. A seasoned journalist who has reported from some of the most dangerous hotspots around the world, including the frontlines in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Yingst was just one among many people plunged into the terrifying chaos of that horrific event. In this shocking and eye-opening chronicle, he pieces together the story of that tragic day and reveals how he risked his life searching for answers to essential questions in real time--who within Israel had been attacked; what happened to them; who, potentially, was next--while exploring the impact on both Israelis and Palestinians as a full-scale war ramps up and peace grows more elusive. “We have a responsibility now to account for and record these events—and tell the world the truth,” Yingst writes. “We cannot look away.”
Committed to reporting the whole truth, on both sides of the Israel-Gaza border, Yingst interviewed a range of exclusive contacts to incorporate multiple perspectives. From conversations with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and high-ranking soldiers, to interviews with Senior Hamas official Dr. Bassem Naim and Gazan journalist Nael Ghaboun, to heartbreaking accounts from civilians placed in the crosshairs of the attack and conflict that followed, Yingst takes us inside the newest phase of an old war in which thousands more people—men, women, and children—are suffering.
Combining candor, grit, and veracity, Yingst paints a vivid picture of horrors and violence, matched by acts of courage and humanity that cut through the darkness. A testament to unwavering resilience and tenacity, Black Saturday is the riveting chronicle of one journalist’s experience relentlessly pursuing the truth in the face of terror.

A political history of the rise and fall of American debt relief.
Americans have a long history with debt. They also have a long history of mobilizing for debt relief. Throughout the nineteenth century, indebted citizens demanded government protection from their financial burdens, challenging readings of the Constitution that exalted property rights at the expense of the vulnerable. Their appeals shaped the country’s periodic experiments with state debt relief and federal bankruptcy law, constituting a pre-industrial safety net. Yet, the twentieth century saw the erosion of debtor politics and the eventual retrenchment of bankruptcy protections.
The Political Development of American Debt Relief traces how geographic, sectoral, and racial politics shaped debtor activism over time, enhancing our understanding of state-building, constitutionalism, and social policy.

    1.Relationship without image is love
    Relationship means action and movement.
Without understanding the totality of human relationship we live in conflict, however intimate we may be.
When there is knowledge as image in relationship there is conflict.
2.The meaning of life pleasure and fear
"Is life a mere struggle within and without; laborious, painful, anxious, and then death?
What place has thought and what is the structure of thinking?
Pleasure is the continuance of an incident which is dead, past. Thought pursues that incident which becomes pleasure.
    3.Order love and death
In our life there is very little order.
Most of us conform, which is the very essence of disorder.
We conform because we want to succeed inwardly or outwardly; success to us is the most important thing in life.
Order and virtue come with the understanding of disorder.
    4.Religion and meditation
What part does religion play in one’s life?
How do you know that you or anyone has attained enlightenment or reached the highest form of religious thought?
How can a mind which is always in conflict within itself find that which has never been in conflict?
In inquiring into meditation, do not follow anybody.
Meditation is a daily life in which there is no control whatsoever.
When dealing with psychological facts, is the observer different from the thing observed?
A certain part of the brain can function efficiently only when it has total order, security.
The moment you are aware you are silent it is not silence.
    Silence is the highest order.
In silence, parts of the brain which have not been occupied become totally active.

Questions from the audience followed the talk.
