Beschreibung

In "Celibates," George Moore delves into the intricate lives of his characters, exploring themes of love, desire, and the complexities of human relationships within the fabric of early 20th-century society. Written in a modernist style characterized by a stream-of-consciousness technique, Moore's narrative captures the subtleties of emotional turmoil and existential contemplation. The novel reflects the societal norms and expectations of his time, questioning the constraints placed on personal happiness and the nature of celibacy itself, making it a poignant commentary on the conventional views of romance and sexuality. George Moore, an influential figure in the Irish literary renaissance, was deeply affected by his own experiences and observations of societal norms. His literary journey was marked by a desire to push against Victorian constraints and delve into the human psyche. Drawing from his background in art and his connections with contemporaries like W.B. Yeats, Moore's work often blurs the lines between the autonomous self and societal pressures, which profoundly informs the narrative of "Celibates." This novel is highly recommended for readers who are interested in an introspective examination of human relationships and the often-contradictory nature of desire. Moore's nuanced exploration of celibacy offers a rich and thought-provoking experience, appealing to those who appreciate literature that challenges societal expectations and delves into the depths of human emotion.

If I were to write a memoir, the title would be: Joan and The Multiple Times She Absolutely Did Not Need Ezra Harrison, But That Jerk Was There Anyway.

    There was . . .

    1) The time he saved my life (by forcing me in a compromising position).

    2) The time he taught me how to wear a certain appendage (okay, so I probably should've just Googled it).

    3) The time he helped me woo the woman of my dreams (after he slept with her first).

I do not need Ezra Harrison and his devil-may-care smile and his messy hair and his loud motorcycle and his huge, massive chip on his shoulder. I don't need him, but . . . I want him. I want them both.

    Contains mature themes.

This is the first of six audiobooks in the series, the next will become available in the very near future and I do hope you enjoy this first instalment, and it's only $3, all subsequent will remain at that price as I would not like price to be a barrier to your enjoyment.

I have worked very hard and meticulously to provide you with an enjoyable experience, the initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 1/2 minutes and prepares you for the start, synthesizer, bass and cymbals in a soul/funk form. The closing music ends the tale on a darker tone and at about 2 minutes and the same musical instruments, genre and industrial/fearful mood but with more caution added.

The story itself runs to about 15 minutes and is narrated in my own voice.

I do hope you and your family, if applicable, enjoy this audiobook and let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come!

Taking the form of one long email addressed to an estate agent, Goodlord is a fictional memoir of habitation, a genre-defying novelistic text that beautifully evokes the people and places of our lives——the spaces of work, those that may or may not be 'home', sites of trauma and ecstasy. Showing all the control of voice one would expect from a poet of her rare skill, Ella Frears has created a book that is as funny as it is harrowing, and beautifully skewers the contemporary housing crisis while questioning the fundamental desires, drivers and disappointments that lie at the heart of our obsession with 'property'.

"Go ahead, No-Face. Take the shot. Shoot me in hallowed ground. I've heard the stories about you. How you've lost your soul as well as your face. They say you have no faith, no soul. It wouldn't matter to a heartless no account like you if you killed me in a church or in a whorehouse.
It's all the same to you."
