"The Willows" is one of Algernon Blackwood's best known and creepiest stories. Many say it is his best and scariest. American horror author H.P. Lovecraft considered it to be the finest supernatural tale in English literature. He wrote in his treatise "Supernatural Horror in Literature", "Here art and restraint in narrative reach their very highest development, and an impression of lasting poignancy is produced without a single strained passage or a single false note." "The Willows" is an example of early modern horror and is connected within the literary tradition of weird fiction. Is it scary? Yes, yes it is.

Douglas River is a nightclub owner in Morgantown, West Virginia. River is also a vampire who, after nearly two centuries of bloodsucking, suddenly discovers he's becoming human again--he's starting to see himself in the mirror, blood makes him sick, daylight doesn't bother him, and other worse things are starting to happen.
Normally, this might not present too much of a problem. But in River's case, he needs to find a cure…fast. He's one of the vampire elite, and after his secret leaks out, other vampires want to kill him so they can usurp his position.
River also has the problem of a team of vampire hunters who've been after him for ages, trying to kill him, too.
The unsympathetic and bloodthirsty River is the sort of fellow who loves being godlike and hates the concept of becoming human. He's desperately looking for his cure and will stop at nothing to end his Vampire’s Nightmare.

Until the day she walked, or rather dragged herself into the centre of town, most people thought that Amy Schiller was a myth.Certainly, she had been a story, circulated amongst the kids of the town since long before I joined the police service, so far back in fact, that I had heard it when I was a child myself. In the story I heard, Amy was supposed to be a ghost. In other versions, she was something more like a monster or witch, but we’ll get to that. In the end though, in reality, Amy was neither a myth nor a ghost, and her case turned out to be far worse than any of those tales that children whisper in the dark.I suppose it was inevitable that..
