Summary

A villa is listed for sale with an unusual ad on a real estate portal. The proposal catches Daphne’s attention as she’s looking for a new apartment after breaking up with her ex-girlfriend. But there’s one detail that makes it even more intriguing: “The seller isn’t asking for money.”

“This villa will go to whoever lives in it for thirty consecutive days, without ever stepping beyond its gates. And without paying a single cent,” Bárrot explained to her. Daphne smiled, amused. “What is it, haunted?” she asked, pretending to shiver. “Are there ectoplasms popping out of nowhere, playing tricks on the tenants?” Bárrot denied, shaking his head. “But maybe that would’ve been preferable...”

Daphne and her girlfriend have broken up abruptly. While staying at her sister’s place, Daphne sets out to find a new apartment. Intrigued by an unusual ad, she finds herself standing in front of a villa. Between discoveries and unexpected twists, what initially seems extraordinary and futuristic will soon turn into something far more threatening and uncontrollable.

Mother Night is a hallucinogenic journey across a city with too many alleyways and across a life surviving childhood sexual assault. Forming a nocturnal séance, Serge ♆ Neptune resurrects abusive old lovers and ghosts of the queers of the past – conjures men in cars and men in bedrooms – providing them invitation and shelter, or casting them to stormy waves.
In a book of many types of darkness – across poems of vulnerability and harm – what persists in Mother Night is its celebration of resilience, what shines brightest is the many ways it reaches for the light.

My name is Sonia, and I'm a ghost. I'm stuck haunting my old house, and as much as I love the place, if I weren't already dead, I'd be bored to death. When Annie moves in, though, I'm much less bored. She's not scared off by my presence, and she even tries to communicate with me. I have the biggest crush of my afterlife, and I'm kinda getting the impression that maybe, if we can figure out how to interact, she might even feel the same. This is a short story.

Left with a hollowness he can't fill, Kai aches to find solace in the one elfin he trusts—a Sidhe Lord named Ryder—but he has unfinished business with Dempsey's estranged brother, a man who long ago swore off anything to do with the feral elfin child Dempsey dragged up from the gutter.
